  1. Just having a look at the lines of Moby Dick, very pretty but might suffer if measured as a 6 but should be a nicely mannered yacht
  2. Hi Richad, from tabs are allowed but my personal feeling is that they really only seem effective on long legs to windward, that's a personal thing, but you for one and you don't like it just don't use it
  3. Hi Richard right been out and about with the tape measure ,my fine are from a renaissance and a Ravenna and both are fitted into fin boxes, total dimensional of fin 60mms long bottom of fin 290 mms long, from hull to top of lead 80 mm, length at base of hull 223 mm. the leads are .com Sails egg and are both the original shape, I believe there is a drawing on their website. do remember the draught of the yacht is set by the measuring and Carrie a high penalty in the titular so you do not want to exceed this it is determined by the overall length and the weight, I th will we some flexibility in fin depth and weight to get the best t r whatever design you have, what is it by the way. sorry it is not more straightfrward, but the penalty of this rule am a and the most of the older designs change compete with the newer designs
  4. Hi Richard I will apply a tale measure to my sixes in the morning and get back to you, Typical sixes are from 10 kilos to12.5 to 13 kilosthe12 something is probably the common weight but lots depends on the complicated formulae
  5. What design is it
  6. My local model shop suggested I buy direct from vape tex
  7. Richard Uttley his email is richard.utley2@btinernet.com
  8. As it's registered its worth contacting the 10r registrar and the number should give you all the info you need, looks pretty though
  9. I use a bit of silicon n the threads when voting deck eyes etc, I find this is an effective sealant but the fitting car removed easily if required
  10. I agree it is no great advantage going lower on the mast, remembering that as the wind strength increases the biggest problem with a six is retaining control and the design does tend to lift up and broach so reduction of the main sail area is the prime consideration, in really extreme conditions you still need to be able to sail to windward, on my C suit I have reduced the job area by taking area from the foot of the sail and the roach this increasing the spot effectively and allowing a greater volume of air through the slot
  11. Certainly talk to Damien, as I said I was impressed with the quality and finish on Sea Bird ,and at the price point where Damien is a new six completed and measured would work out cheaper than a new IOM, and I certainly have no doubts which way I would go
  12. Mike Ewart replied to charlestaylour's topic in DF Racing
sometimes if you lay the sail on some material like a firm leather surface ( some give but not soft) and run a blunt edge down the crease you can take away the worst of the crease it will still be visible but the effect will be less damaging on the airflow. Conversly the sail is non panelled and it is not beyond the average sailor to make a new one for yourself
  13. I thought when I saw the pictures on ebay that the sail proportions looked different but had not considered the mast position in relation to the fin position which would explain it, the test will be in her balance when sailing. The description of the sheeting sounds like it would work quite successfuly
  14. As a cruising yacht this will be lovely to sail agree with the pre joys comments regarding winch and main sheet tower, remember with a closed loop system you will need an elastic section to take up variations in the win h drum diameter as the sheets wind in and out and I am assuming you have a two section winch drum the sheet tension needs to be equivalent to half a turn of the winch approx
  15. Well written. Shaun nice pics good report great sailing, better luck for Bill next time we hope
  16. Credit to Damien and Dave H, a very nice yacht made even better because she is a six metre, sailed well in a good range of conditions at Fleetwood yesterday, from outward appearance I couldn't tell she was printed, roll up and get your piggy banks out this is it appears the way to go for small numbers of yachts, Damien is happy to build them for you
  17. Mike Ewart replied to Trevor's topic in IOM
I wouldn't think there is a problem with putting some elastic on the main but I expect to be shot down
  18. Hi I am using a 380 rm g on my Sword and 2 whirlwind on Sonamara, but I was using a 290 rm g on my Gothica just get the small drum on the winch and use a decent amount of travel you should be Ok, PJ Sails also do a winch to suit an A class
  19. Do get her out on the water, we are looking at someway to encourage the older designs back onto the water, I am sorting out my Sonamara, she is only competitive in a blow as are a lot of the older designs. please contact me directly reference the six metre as we are compiling a n owners listing for the COG. All six metre skippers will need to contact me to get on the list and give permission to be included on the listing
  20. go round the outside and leave them all behind, occasionally you will get caught out on the inside with no water , duck the mark and go round the outside it really does pay in the long run
  21. The wooden one certainly looks lovely I saw it the other day. Dave Andrews one was sailing very well when he brought it to 2 Islands a couple of years ago
  22. You would be pushed to get a footie in there
  23. Hi John, I am not positive on this but my tendency would be to go with Grahams mast position he is rarely much out Mike
  24. Dont have any photos but the trapper marblehead was a nice yacht for its time , generally in glass with a rounded deck , basically no sharp edges anywhere, wont be competitive now but will sail nicely also generally conventional rig.
