  1. I have a personal number which I now use on IOM R6M footie and RG65 so I hope it is OK otherwise I have a lot of number changing to do

Hopefully this is a question that will be asked a few times in the near future as you are all busy building boats out there, there are some items and comments on the 6 metre website about this but, numbers come from the class registrar Bill Green, measurement by an accredited six metre measurer, I know that Henry Farley and Bill Green are measurers and to my shame do not know of any more, I am sure there is at least one in Scotland and would be suprised if there are nort more in the northwest of UK, the question of sails is a difficult one, if you have built to a design and have the boat at the correct weight and accurately built it is worth getting a working suit of sails for the measurement, if there are discrepancies these can be altered, remember you will not need a huge sail wardrobe, hopefully Bill Henry or another measurer will come up with a definitive answer, all my boats were already measured when I got them

I am feeling a bit out of it not having a Romanza but will be at Bournville and very interested in seeing yours sailing, keep up the great work

Hi Brian I believe the force 6 was a developemnet of the 6T6 which was a hard chine boat but not very competitive do not know much about the Force ^ but the hull shape does look nice and that is half the battle
  5. Vinnie, welcome I promise you will enjoy sailing theses yachts, any info you want just put a question up on the website and we will attempt to guide you in the right direction, are you building in wood? The blog on the six metre website is very good but that of course is building a plug slightly different. Do look at your sail wardrobe slightly differently these boats carry their sail very well and most of us dont have huge sail wardrobes generally a full suit a skinny main ( full suit with most of the roach curve taken out and a reduced height and area suit, you can mix and match mains and jibs if you want to and this is often quite a useful compromise in certain wind strengths. Some people are still using a twin winch set up to alow a bit more flexibility in control but most are now on a single 380 or a big titan winch, do go to a higher voltage for the battery to prevent brownouts when pulling in the sail in a gust 2 cell LiPo is probably the way to go. Lastly look carefully at the sail fixing to the single allowed mast as changing the rig when it is blowing a bit out on the lakeside can cause problems with certain rig fixings, I personally prefer a groovy mast .
  6. Val I believe on some set ups you need to cut the red wire on one of the BEC leads not sure why but that is what I have been advised, the BEC leads on the whirlwinds are the only leads apart from the signal leads, never used a graupner regatta so a bit in the dark hope someone with real knowledge will help you soon
  7. Hi Val, I have a working set up with twin whirlwinds on an A the battery is connected to the twinned BEC circuits on the winches and the winch signal leads go back to channel 1 and channel 4 on the receiver, this works with the twin stick arrangement I have. I am planning to convert to 2.4 ghz with the same sort of idea but using a mix from channel 1 to channel 4 on a spektrum dx6 (new type) not yet working but see the answer that David A gave me on this forum. Hope this helps
  8. Not sure what everyone else uses but I would use 200gms/m2 and have at least 2 thicknesses at stress points but lots of much better qualified builders will now say I am wrong and tell you the correct way to do it, well done with the choice of a new Six, and it will be interesting to see as we now have 4 Romanza's building counting yours, after a number of years with the design sitting all of a sudden a great popularity, keep it up
  9. It is probably a renaisance or a roccoco the people at the broads have both there so it will be easy enough to tell, that is assuming you dont have the certificate which is the definitive answer

Hi everyone as you can see we have a few new things going on on the website we need a few more bits for boatography a Renaisance , a Roccoco and anything else you have please contact through the webmaster, he would like a brief description and a photo
  11. Hi John, difficult to be sure and there are loads out there who know better but it looks like a Renaisance hull to me although the ruder doesnt look right, bring it out and sail it if it is unknown and fast you can call it what you want looks a modern type hull, where are you?
  12. Hi Dave, thanks for that I got the explanation on Saturday but it is nice to have it written out for those of short memories (me)
  13. Hi Everyone I have to report a major victory the peters (Shepherd and Jackson) are building a six, not just any old six but a Romanza possibly the fastest six to be seen follow the build blog on the website, we will find out after all these years if the Romanza is as quick as the VPP says it should be, mind you a bit different to the footies they normally sail
  14. Hi John and all, to access the rules etc go to MYA members area, then log on and go to knowledge base then MYA classes and 6 metre all the rules and measurement information is there with the history and changes some of it is heavy reading but lots of info hope this helps, eventually will have more on the website but as it is an MYA administered class maybe better that rules etc are on the MYA site regards Mike
  15. Dave been having a try excuse the ignorance but dont understand mix A 14 I am using a new Spektrum DX6
  16. Thanks Dave and John,I will set to and make the adjustments, I was a little worried about the cut the red wire because when they are defusing a bomb it is always the red wire that they shouldnt cut. But seriously I was totally boggled by it all too many wires and winches and I still wanted to use the adjustability of the twin set up on 2.4 gig so many thanks
  17. Hi Guys and Gals, I am looking to change my twin winch set up to 2.4 ghz from 40 meg and I only have a single stick transmitter, how do I set up the connections and can they be rigged on a DX6i to allow me to give some trim adjustments to the jib winch, next how do I cope with the 2 BEC lines on the 2 Whirlwind winches
  18. Hi Peter, if B gets through without making contact with anyone then there is no case to answer except that of being possibly too pushy, if boat A has to alter course to avoid B then B is at fault and must do a penalty or retire and should be behind A after completing the penalty, the distance that A leaves to round the mark should be consistent with any previous mark roundings and should not be excessive it all ties in with the proper course etc, but the fundamental fact is that an overlap once established at the 4 boat lengths mark is retained even is the boat astern or outside subsequently gains an inside overlap.
  19. Hi again guys the new web site is up and is available at http://sixmetresailing.weebly.com/ we are looking for photos and news I would like to have local results and of course all district and National events on here come on stump up your pictures etc for the site initially forward to me whilst we sort out how we are uploading everything
  20. I must admit it is a bit of an awkward one but by the rules no protest was submitted, it does not matter what A said he was doing if the protest forms are no received then no protest has been made the only recourse the race officer has is to disqualify booth boats as there was a contact which was unresolved.
  21. But the problem is if a boat calls out of control we as skippers of other boats dont know what has happened and we must consider the call as per the rules a call of out of control requires a retirement according to my reading of the appendix.

I have now had her out on the water, she sails beautifully and I will bear you in mind if the wife says its her or the Sonomara, she is built so nicely I was seriously considering having clear deck patches as the inside is better than the outside of a lot of boats I have seen, am serious considering Veterans A Nats now
  23. Mike Ewart replied to Mike Ewart's topic in A Class
Hi Bill thanks for that I bought the boat because it is very pretty, I really only intended buying the Ravenna, but the A was sitting there and looks lovely, havent sailed her yet but hope to get her on the water in the next week or 2 and might even look at the Veterans Nats for the A this yearm only problem is she who must be obeyed doesnt know about it yet!!

Hi Chris thanks for the info, I definitely have you on the certificate, and Martin Raishbrook, need to clean up the hull a little bit and put her back on the water, do you or anyone out there have a source for a twin stick radio, I have the original but would like to go to 2.4 mhz if possible
