  1. Got to agree with Derek, only place on a par with Fleetwood is West Kirby.... Check you boat is water tight, check yourpot lid is on correctly, then check again, unless you want to get off home early!
  2. There are two elements to mast rake, firstly getting it correct makes the boat sail at its optimum, but probably as importantly having dimensions that you can go back to each time you sail gives you a repeatable process. This becomes even more beneficial with lower rigs that are not used regularly. Find the rake that you find the best for each rig (some designers have done this for you) and once happy write this down inside your rig box or on the sail (in fine tipped marker) and use this every time you rig the boat. This should be repeatable to 2-3 mm each time for each rig. The BG sails and design website has a good section called top tips with good advice. BG Sails & Design (bgsailsanddesign.com)
  3. I agree with both posts above, and each class and district should consider it skippers when compiling the calendar. It is important that we try for the best racing, but this encompasses a number of elements, none of which work if there are only 2 or 3 entries due to the venue. When building the national calendar, we try to mix the venues and the times to give people a fair crack at sailing at all levels, some venues are great sailing but don't suit those who are less nimble, others work for the less nimble, are restricted on wind direction and ultimate sailing but give a more social event. The key to a successful sailing calendar is a blend that gets the best participation over a season. Might be worth asking your local district councillor if you can help give a different view on the calendar when compiling next time. Darin
  4. Just a note; I understand that the new venue for 23 doesn't have a cafe, so the MYA are providing Tea & Coffee, (hopefully with a few biscuits?) but there will be no food available. Might be worth packing a few sarnies if you want lunch
  5. Hi, I have had a message from one of the EuroCup organisers and they are happy to sit in a two day event, and would be happy as well with a 3 day event. So, if the UK fleet prefers to keep as two day event that counts towards the Euro Cup then thats ok. Any more comments from those in the fleet?
  6. Lincoln and Fleetwood are two clubs that are good with their social media, take a look at what they do. The MYA has a YouTube channel and I’m sure that links to HRYC content could be sorted.
  7. Some of the fleet may know that the 2023 MYA Marblehead Nationals are planned for Keighley in Sept 2023. As somone who is assisting in compiling the MYA calendar for 2023 I have been asked a question. The MYA Nationals are always open to overseas friends and competitors and we welcome their attendance, and as many will know there is also a Euro Nations Cup that is sailed throughout the summer in a number of locations in Europe. At a recent Euro Nations Cup there was interest from a number of skippers in attending our Nationals and it was asked if we would include this as a UK round of the Euro Nations. From this simple question it raises a few further questions but: 1. Would the UK fleet be happy to include the MYA Nationals as a round of the Euro Cup? 2. If the answer is yes, would the UK skippers be happy that this is a 3 day event, with the MYA Nationals being the 1st 2 days, Sat/Sun and then the 3rd (Mon) being a continuation for those wishing to complete the Euro Nations event. Thoughts please?
  8. Lots of great info here. http://www.bgsailsanddesign.com/toptips.html
  9. I’m with Derek on this one, no need to write anymore rules. 30.4 should be used as a last resort and everyone should be aware of the consequences and keep clear of others. In recent times lazy race teams have started to use 30.4 too eagerly and we should be less keen to use it.
  10. Looks like a Wotsit by Bill Curtis.
  11. Ring Ripmax directly and select Futaba servicing. They are excellent and turn problems round quickly. It is quite likely that you have got water in one of the trim switches. Although not the same transmitters I have had similar problems through water dripping on the tranny when you lift the boat out.
  12. Final results after two days of great racing in the M Class. Congratulations to the podium of Brad Gibson, Pete Stollery and Graham Bantock. Three different designs in the top three showing the strength of the class. Well done to all the competitors and thanks to all the helpers and race team. Full results: Next date for your diary is 10/11th Sept at Keighley.
  13. Great news Roger, entries now building and it looks like we will be close to 30 šŸ‘ Anyone else who fancies it get your entries in. if you fancy saying hello or seeing what’s going on just drop in to Datchet Water SC during the event.
  14. To avoid failures try to keep water out the boat and electrics. Salt water and receivers do not mix well, put Vaseline on connections and rudder post if the shaft doesn’t go ā€œthroughā€ the boat. As Graham says wash everything down regularly and leave as many patches/lids off over night. And you’ll be fine.
  15. More from Guildford, A brace of Stollerys, where's Roger ????
  16. 1st entries from Guildford - big welcome to Team Vice. šŸ‘
  17. And now we have GB in, who’s next……?
  18. Fantastic to see Damian entered šŸ‘ Looking for the Stollery, Vice and Roberts names now along with GB, Lester and the Edwards. Plenty of space on this great event. Get your entries in. Can we get to 24 entries?
  19. Only a few weeks to go now until the 2022 Nationals at Datchet and the fleet is slowly building. With the current increased costs of living, travel and accommodation I suspect that we wont be quite at the pre pandemic numbers but it will still be a great weekend with the chance to stretch the legs of your Marblehead at one of the best venues in the UK and pit yourself against some of the best M skippers in the World. See the entry details below and the current list of entrants. 2022 M Nationals.
  20. The "Us" by the way is everyone as the we are all the MYA, not just the council. Unfortunately I feel that whilst there are a small number of vocal volunteers, that the membership as a whole does not wish to get involved with the running of the sport and experience tells me that feedback is very difficult to obtain- maybe a list of vacant roles would help people to understand some of the difficulties.
  21. Maybe my earlier post needs clarifying, but the role of the MYA is to allow skippers to race to a common set of rules across the UK. This may now be a little outdated but was the original reason for its formation as there were differing scoring and racing systems before and during its early formative years. The common rules we use are the RRS and the Class rules (whether International, National, or one design), alongside MYA participation rules for the larger events.
  22. Hi Paul/ Steve, I think that a clubs rules re measurement are up to the club and its members, but I would be very wary of trying to introduce any two tier system. I feel that the whole reason for the MYA's existence is to create racing of a common set of rules and regs across the UK and a sensible common approach to all aspects of racing encourages participation across the various districts and countries. As to wait individuals consider sensible is unfortunatley variable ....... Darin
