Afleet App for Large Events
Up until our recent event on the 5th April, we have always used a written scoresheet, then transferred the scores onto the MYA HMS spread sheet for scoring, which has served us very well over the last 4 years, we moved onto Afleet for our club racing and it is a game changer (I think I already posted about this) For Our open we decided we would run the event on the Afleet App, there is a HMS option, once you have sorted the seeding races, the app deals with all the promotions/demotions etc... for you, there is an option for either 4 or 6 up/down so the heat management and scoring was completed by one person, usually we would have 1 recording scores, 1 on the heat board, using Afleet allowed an extra skipper to race on the day. If you have the app give it a try, its easier than the alternative (in my opionion) Andy Start - Huntingdon RYC

Electric Outboards
We looked at one of these as an option as our battery was constantly running low on juice, but instead we upgraded our battery to a 120 AH one, and it works so much better for us, at a fraction of the cost, whilst the outboards you mention are a great idea, you are tied to their own batteries, which look expensive

FS-ST8 Range over water
Stolen from elsewhere, but what I follow for twin receiver ariels Yes its the inch or so at the end that does the receiving, so the radio can go anywhere convenient letting the aerial go where needed. The active bit of the aerial needs to be above the waterline, it should be remembered that anything that can conduct electricity will, if in line of sight between transmitter and receiver, block the signal. Dry wood and plastic, OK. Metal, soaking wood (shouldn't happen, but still....), carbon fibre, metal plated plastic, all of these can block the signal. Single aerials don't care which way they point. Twin ones do say in the instrucions that the two elements should be at 90 degrees to each other, but it doesn't matter whether thats vertical or horizontal or anything between. Old style long aerials were difficult to block, the relatively tiny 2G4 aerials can be accidentally blocked much more easily.

Start/Finish Marks
Stability issue sorted, our training officer came up with a great solution, and these have now been tested in a blow They stand upright, and I mean bolt upright The buoyancy wheel keeps the boats away from the mark(less chance of a snag) Some dense foam was also added in the top of the mark

Topping lift wire - what gauge
Morning what gauge are we using for topping lift wire, i have been using dyneema but I want to stiffen it up, my old boat had a flexible steel wire, but struggling to find something small enough

Start/Finish Marks
Cheers Eric, we may give your floatation idea a try out

Start/Finish Marks
I hear what you say John, but we have the opposite problem, too little is showing above the waterline
-
Start/Finish Marks
We are experimenting with the attached, still jigging the buoyancy to get it right, the flags are really useful, has anyone else come up with a similar system, and if so, how do you manage the buoyancy ? We currently have a small amount of ballast in the bottom, a few holes to let some water in to achieve negative buoyancy, and a child's noodle in the top

Series Scoring
It's taken us a long hard slog to get the calculation and presentation of our series scoring together, so rather than other clubs trying to re-invent the wheel, I am happy to share what we use, our spread sheet follows the MYA best 5 out of 7/ 5 out of 9 events etc... and all the calculations are completed for you, the scores will also calculate to 2 decimal points, which breaks most ties, I can't take any credit for the workbook, this has been produced by the very clever Henry Farley, it will accommodate up to 18 events. Along with Afleet for our bankside scoring this has been a game changer for my admin post racing, clearly I am very happy to share the work book, and if needed can do a very quick zoom tutorial (it wont take long its that easy) you can see our series scores on our web site https://hryc.co.uk/series-results-2024/

HMS query
Does Afleet allow for copying the entrants across from a previous week like I do with HMS, or do they have to be entered from scratch each time? A fleet is quite clever, as it stores your skippers/sail No's/Design so once you have created an event, you can pull previous competitors from a list by starting to type their name, and it will then list all options for that skipper, so you could have 1 skipper who has the same sail number on DF95, IOM , 6M select the boat racing that day and he is entered, I've probably not explained that well 😂😂 but it really is so simple Out of interest, what sorta money did the waterproof tablet cost? £169 but its proper waterproof and been tested Off amazon we use this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/OUKITEL-RT3-Android-Expandable-Unlocked/dp/B0CSS75P3H/ref=sr_1_6?crid=M2H9T1OYCGSV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.MpeicrQGKjvUj35gnqpOdLR8bYj5-1RXzGguMFBx3n7CycBmXsrjxLbKN_YCvoCtfpT1u7l9AAHNHhS01Gk1lwFOM9gLke1YSU6mTEimGoRjduBM4pf9ZRnroyTOS1JV0YX5o0kMUGkRBHaKOcSDJDN0Zs5WMZNK9piH7ksHiAaFqlne1Uej8mtIjRZT_t_7ciepP8LHGQNCsD5706Z_yLpzuaE75BMPFaBJqhjLZyo.Iiqm0FzQdXFPeXzZxlG-HPeeQGZkS5f6xOgBSdIiYY8&dib_tag=se&keywords=waterproof+tablet+android&qid=1711122687&sprefix=waterproof+tablet+an%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-6&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.d7e5a2de-8759-4da3-993c-d11b6e3d217f

HMS query
Another vote for Afleet, we purchased a waterproof tablet for the lakeside, instant results !! no more keying in 144 + scores at the end of racing However, we still used the trusted HMS for open meetings, at the moment !!!

The old days…. Naive question but relevant for moving forward
I was going to wind you up Steve, but this has long been a question in my mind, even if we had to pay the sailmaker a premium to have a "measured" sail, this must be a way forward and bring us into the 21st century, for those of us that still work, a days holiday is precious to us, luckily I have a club mate that has dealt with my requirements when needed Perhaps this is one for Graham Bantock to answer

Open Meetings why don't you go?
Hi, and thanks for your response, I think the walking is down to the the individual, the few meetings I have attended, there have been skippers that have sat in one place for all the races, there was the occasional hail needed for people to get out of the way !!, but all taken in good spirit, come to the next Huntingdon RYC event, we will provide a lakeside bench for you
