Electric Outboards

Featured Replies

At EDMYC we currently use an electric trolling motor powered by a 80 ah 12v lead acid battery to power an inflatable 2.6m dinghy. Are any clubs using the new generation of electric outboards with integrated li ion/li fe  batteries?

We are currently researching the Thrustme range and possibly the Torqueedo as options and would be interested in people’s experiences.

We looked at one of these as an option as our battery was constantly running low on juice, but instead we upgraded our battery to a 120 AH one, and it works so much better for us, at a fraction of the cost, whilst the outboards you mention are a great idea, you are tied to their own batteries, which look expensive

From perspective of being an Engineer, my gut feel would be stick with replaceable lead-acid. Integrated lithium great in theory, but what cost when the battery ages...? And if, like us, the weekly charging is only solar, a non-integrated battery at least gives you the option to have a spare.

(I also stopped buying all-in-one hifi systems in the 90s, in favour of individual pieces lol)

Better…. It has transformed our recovery boat experience for not much money
