Open Meetings why don't you go?
I am still fairly new to this lark, but having entered a few open meetings this year, I have found them to be a great day out, with good racing against other sailors with similar abilities to mine, and the chance to get some top tips from some of the better sailors, I am keen to try to grow the attendance within our region for next year, so in order to gauge how to do this, it would be useful to get a feeling of why people don't go to these great events. Any input would be useful please

Spreaders
Taken from BG set up detail Spreader Length If using our mast rigging guide your spreaders should be measured from tip to tip as a percentage of your shroud base on the deck. For narrower less powerful designs, flat deck older designs or those with thicker section foils creating a tendency of weather helm, a shorter percentage spreader length allowing the mast to bend and depower the sail by opening the mainsail leech earlier in a gust would benefit A Rig 75% (of shroud base) B Rig 70% (of shroud base)

So for absolute clarity C for the start line ? B for the finish line ?- The Start Line
I have found this in the appendix, but I'm not sure how to interpret it E2.6 Starting Races (a) Rule 26 is changed to: Races shall be started using warning, preparatory and starting signals at one minute intervals. During the minute before the starting signal, additional sound or oral signals shall be made at ten second intervals, and during the final ten seconds at one second intervals. Each signal shall be timed from the beginning of its sound. (b) The starting and finishing lines shall be tangential to, and on the course side of, the starting and finishing marks.- The Start Line
Good morning, some healthy discussion in our club regarding this, please see pic, which is the correct line A,B or C, or something else, I have had a couple of different responses within our club, so it would be good if someone can point me to "the Rule" Thanks Andy HRYC- Recovery Craft, What do you use for motive power ?
We have a 3m inflatable SIB for our recovery craft, we are currently using a Bison 56ib thrust electric trolling motor, but this is our second unit as they seem to develop faults, looking for advice on what other clubs use as a power unit please? Andy - Huntingdon RYC- Junior Club Membership
Thanks Graham, that’s some great guidance- Junior Club Membership
I think that is our plan, but we have a sailing club as our mother club, and they are asking what other sailing clubs charge for junior RC Sailing- Junior Club Membership
We are in the fortunate position of having interest from a junior member, which is great as the club is currently full of old uns...... Are there any clubs that have any juniors if yes, what do you charge by way of a membership fee, (not MYA just club fees) Cheers Andy HRYC- Lakeside Scoring , The Way Forward .......

Cheers all, we have now got a halfway house, we use email for our main race day, Saturday, and WhatsApp for weds & Mondays, however it very soon turned into a playground, so I had to set up a further WhatsApp group for all the banter, tips , chat etc.... in short WhatsApp is working great, except when certain members forget to turn their phone on 😂😂- Lakeside Scoring , The Way Forward .......
This has been a game changer for me, so I wanted to share it Hi, we have been using the old fashioned pencil & paper system, and as secretary have suffered, soggy, ripped, illegible score sheets at the end of a days racing, A fellow regional club member gave me the heads up on Afleet, this is an Android app which costs £3.89, developed by a radio sailor down under. It is simple to use, and will provide instant results which are ready to email etc.. after the last boat finishes. We employ a RO system on days when we have more that 8 sailors (every weekend now) the app will also calculate average scores for this. This app saves me 1.5 hours after racing (calculating average scores, inputting to HMS, 12 competitors x 12 races = 144 entries into HMS) plus the whole fleet are now comfortable with it after a couple of weekends use. Plus for larger clubs where you need to deploy heats due to numbers on the water, the App will also run a heat management system Its marvellous i cant praise it enough Andy Start - Huntingdon RYC- Club Racing Attendance
Thanks Larry I will take a look Andy- Club Racing Attendance
Hi Larry, this looks ideal, what's the name of the plug in you use please ?- Club Racing Attendance
Thanks Peter, I will have a look at your site, Andy- Club Racing Attendance
Hi I am keen to understand how other clubs organise themselves for club racing. we have a membership of 29ish members currently we currently run an email system, whereby the secretary sends out an email to all members, requesting a response to all if the individual is joining in the Saturday club racing , clearly this generates a lot of emails, as we also sail on a weds, we may have the opportunity to sail an evening during the summer months, which will be yet another load of emails between members. In short I am trying to find a system other than email where members can check in to confirm their attendance, either web based or something I can integrate into our Wordpress web site https://huntingdonryc.wordpress.com/ We do need to know who is sailing as we rotate our OOD, and the OOD is chosen by the RO from the replies Any thoughts people ?
