Barry Chisam – RIP
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Barry Chisam on Friday 4th of June.
Barry a skilled boat builder by trade is well known throughout the local Falmouth waterfront for the beautiful gaff boats built at his Penryn Boat Yard. Barry first sailed Marbleheads at Falmouth Model Boat Club (Swanpool) in the late 1980’s however switched to the IOM in the early 1990’s and started building boats to his own designs.
Primarily Barry’s boats were used at Club & District level but by the late 90’s early 2000’s and the birth of the “Isis” both the performance and build quality was noted further afield, culminating with the “Isis” winning the 2003 IOM Worlds in Trevor Binks hands and also a design used for many years at the top of the IOM fleet.
He was a competitive sailor and a gentleman on the water, winning many club races and the South West District Champion Skipper Series on many occasions.
Not only did Barry contribute to the IOM Class but his contribution at club level was immense. A founding member of West Cornwall Radio Sailing Club he was always happy to contribute not only to the running of the club but also as either PRO – ARO to the many events the club has hosted over the years.
Rest in Peace Barry,
From all your friends at West Cornwall Radio Sailing Club.
