A note from the MYA Vice Chair
Dear Member,
Another year has flown by, and as we look ahead to the 2025 MYA Annual General Meeting this November, I want to take a moment to thank you for being part of our vibrant and passionate community.
This year, we’ve rotated the AGM further north. While we recognise it’s still quite a journey for our Scottish members, we hope this change offers an opportunity for new voices to be heard and for more members to take part in shaping the future of our sport.
Although the AGM is still a few months away, we’re reaching out early to invite your thoughts on the direction of the MYA and the Council for 2026 and beyond. Whether you’ve been involved for decades or have only recently joined, your voice matters. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and your ideas—big or small—can make a real difference.
The sport is in a strong position, with membership at an all-time high. That said, we’ve noticed a slight dip in participation in the sailing calendar and travelling events. If you have suggestions to help reinvigorate these areas—whether at a local, district, or national level—we’d love to hear them. Please share your thoughts with your club representative or submit a proposal through your club.
As you know, volunteers are the heart of our sport. From club level to national leadership, everything we do depends on the time and energy of members like you. The MYA Council is no exception. While we’re incredibly grateful for the dedication of our current council members, we also know that fresh perspectives are essential to keep our momentum going.
If you’ve ever thought about giving back to the sport, now is a great time. Speak with your club and consider standing for a role on the Council. It’s a rewarding way to contribute and help shape the future of model yachting.
Please take a moment to review the formal announcements attached to this message. Chat with your clubmates, and if you feel inspired, don’t hesitate to put your name forward.
Thank you once again for your continued support, enthusiasm, and commitment to the sport. I look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM and hearing your ideas.
Warm regards,
Darin
D. Ballington
MYA Vice Chair
