Vane 36 Met and Southern Championship Saturday 16 April 2016
Congratulations to Skipper Peter Fothergill and Mate Paul Edwards our 2016 Met and Southern Vane 36 District Champions.
A forecast of force 3 to 4 from a north westerly direction gave the prospect of a good breeze. However the wind was not that strong and the largest working rigs were chosen by most of the fleet. The wind veered to the north at times, which spoiled a number of ‘perfect’ trims with boat sailing towards the lee of the clubhouse.
The racing was very close and the first three boats were separated overall by only three points. Peter Fothergill with mate Paul Edwards was first with 14 points. Second was Lewis Wyeth and mate Graham Wyeth (13 points), with Shaun Wyeth with Russell Wyeth (12 points) was third. Fourth was Mervyn Cook and Andy Fernie, with fifth being Jacque Cook and Eric Meighen.
The boats and perhaps their skippers preferred one board direction or the other, with the Peter Fothergill team winning all their windward legs, but only one downwind board. Whereas the Mervyn Cook and Shaun Wyeth teams both winning all but one of their downwind legs.
Our thanks goes to Allan Oxlade and Alex Kennaby for undertaking the starting and finishing, together with Jacque Cook for organising the race cards and producing the results.
