Twixmas DF95 Report

ND Councillor Peter Baldwin has sent us a report on the DF95 Twixmas race. Apologies for the delay in publishing this.

The Twixmas DF95 event was contested by 22 sailors on a day with a gusty SW breeze (that topped 20 gusting 40 knots by the end) and which moved around to WSW after lunch.  We saw a little rain, but fortunately most of it fell whilst we were on a break for mulled wine and mince pies or soup and toast at lunchtime!  There was also a thunderstorm that passed through to the North and sucked out all of the wind for a while and so we had to have a 20 minute postponement whilst normal service on the wind resumed.

The day belonged to John Tushingham whodominated the day with 7 wins and took top spot, with John Brierley picking up two wins for second place, with Peter Baldwin rounding out the podium after a consistent day but no wins.  Gordon Bayliff was the only other race winner, but unfortunately he wasn’t consistent enough to place higher overall.

A good number of sailors missed at least one race through the day due to gear failure of some sort and for race 10  there were only 12 finishers.  RO Derek Priestley then called an early halt to proceedings as the wind continued to increase, the race team were getting cold and there was an even great chance of gear failure amongst the remaining sailors.

A great day of DF95 racing at Fleetwood in C and later D Rig, especially once the wind swung to being straight down the lake.
