MDWCS 16-17 R4 Bournville Race Report

Twenty four intrepid skippers took the plunge to race at the famous, some would say infamous duck pond at Valley Pool. The wind direction was relatively steady, fluctuating between, west to south west. Wind speed was between nearly nothing and something (2-8 mph). Course length was one or two laps as appropriate to the wind speed, buoy’s being taken port hand around with a leeward gate.

Due to the wind direction and the shape of Valley Pool the fleet was divided into two heats. As usual, in this case a number of skippers achieved a lot of time on the water by “Tiggering” between heats at the cost of batteries and leg muscle’s! Racing proceeded smoothly due to all skippers arriving promptly at the start line for their heat.

Sailing was close and tactical with five points separating the first four competitors, with Robert Wilson of Leicester club coming out on top.

Many thanks are due to the sailing and refreshment teams at Bournville for their hard work prior to and during the event.

Vic Bellerson (PRO).
