IOMMDCS 2018 R2 Bournville Race report and Results.

When the circus comes to town it did so with a vengeance, 25 skippers rocked up on a lovely day, the wind was in the right place and the right strength. Everything in the garden could not be rosier. What a cracking race, it was anyone from three until the last race when Laurie Brown (15) from Mkt Bosworth had to drop out and hand the event to Darin Ballington (13) with Steve Haywood (19) also in the mix. It was not a one-horse race with good close racing between them.

Close racing was also evident in the next group with Mark Dicks (25) leading the charge and Colin Walton (28) and Dave Alston (29) and it went like that throughout the rest of the fleet. One of the joys of being PRO is being able to watch the battles evolve and unfold throughout the day, with lots of close racing across the board. Bournville was on its best behaviour but it had its moments, enough to justify its reputation as a difficult place to sail. There was a very good atmosphere about the whole event but what I will remember about this particular event was Ian Cooke making it into ‘A’ fleet. I will not forget the cheer that went up when the ‘B’ heat finished confirming Ian’s promotion. That coupled with Tracey Ballington and John Ind having no time off the water as they both kept being promoted into ‘A’ from ‘B’ and then back again. We eventually got in 9 complete races including the seeding heats. That brings me back to where I came in, it was a cracking race.

PRO Bill Green, Bournville RS&MBC.

I would like to thank Bill, Alan, the race observers and Peter, along with Rita in the galley who kept us fuelled with tea and biscuits all day, thanks Bournville RS&MBC, see you all again next year.

Just a little note, I know it was the London marathon, but we are more active than most as Garry Box recorded more than 14,500 steps on his app so even if you say each step was 600mm that equates to about 8.7Km. The race team doing every one of them so thanks.

The full results for both the day and series have been posted to the ‘Results tab’ along with a selection of pictures from Peter Moore in the ‘Gallery’

So, where’s the circus off to next? Watermead MBC near Aylesbury in the south of the District is the next one so we can all do it over again on Sunday 27th May.
