Graham Frazer

In from the MYSA Club Secretary, Charles Legg:

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Graham Frazer, Commodore and subsequently Life President of the MYSA. All those who sailed on the Round Pond on Sunday mornings will remember his kindness and support to newcomers and his enthusiastic, skillful and utterly competitive sailing of his 10 Rater when racing; cheerful when he won and gracious when someone else took line honours. Model Yachting was a huge part of his life and Graham was a huge part of model yachting to many people. We will miss him greatly.

Hugh McAdoo (10 Rater Class Captain):

He was a great person and very dedicated both to the MYSA and the 10R Class. I feel honoured to follow in his footsteps as Class Captain and hope I can do at least part of what Graham did.

Derek Priestley (MYA President)

My association to Graham goes back to the late 1980’s when I was introduced to him by Jim Whieldon, another regular at the Round Pond.

Graham & I worked together to produce the largest ever (42 boats) RA Nationals held at the Round Pond by the MYSA in 1993 for which I was RO. Nothing was too much trouble for Graham to achieve, especially the sat night party at the Royal Household Football Club next door to MYSA. With drinks prices about one third of normal London prices it was quite a night!!
Graham’s skills were used successfully for our association Centenary celebrations, when a day of informal sailing & display was held at MYSA in September 2011.
Well over 100 boats from as far back as 1880 to the present were displayed on the grassed bank in front of the Round pond with some taking to the famous sailing water.
Graham’s final contribution to our sport has been as 10r class captain. His famous “Save the date” early invitation emails, sent to anyone he thought had a slight interest in the class, certainly seem to have done the trick and helped to re-vitalise what had become a very specialised niche class.

Thanks for everything Graham

Sleep Well
Derek Priestley

The MYA Council would also add their condolences and pass on their thoughts to his family at this time.
