Environmental Issues at Three Rivers Radio Yachting Club
Three Rivers District Council has recently carried out a survey of Rickmansworth Aquadrome for deposits of asbestos under the top soil. Unfortunately they discovered a number of sites where asbestos was present only a few inches below the surface. Consequently the Council has adopted an “Asbestos Management Plan” for the whole of the Aquadrome and the Aquadrome site has been deemed as a “NO DIG ZONE”. As such nothing must pierce the ground. This includes staking anything into the ground (e.g) Tent pegs.
Although this has no effect on the normal running of Three Rivers RYC it will not allow us to erect a tent at our Open Meetings. Since we have no shelter at our club a tent/gazebo is essential for protecting the race team and their equipment from the elements.
This situation has been discussed by the Club Committee which has decided to discontinue all future Open Events.
