SWDCS6 @ Bideford on 28th October
Congratulations to Nick Martin on narrowly taking 1st place in the last of the South West Summer Series putting Tony Edwards into 2nd place.
The entries were a little depleted after 2 skippers could not attend. However this did not detract from the days sailing organized by John White and his colleagues.
The wind was a north easterly making it difficult to set the course. This consisted of windward and spreader marks with a leeward gate furthest from the bank. Being a large reservoir this course allowed plenty of variations sailing from the gate to the windward mark. This made interesting sailing.
With gusting winds 2nd suits were the order of the day. Bob Conner took the 1st win of the day but it was Nick Martin who had come back from his sailing sabbatical to impress us all. Tony Edwards was to battle with Nick all day making it a very close contest. Both Bob Conner and Peter Cropper also contested well at the front of the fleet leaving the rest of us to follow.
After 16 races a halt was called around 3.00 pm to allow for the prize giving and the SW AGM.
Many thanks to John and his team for putting on this event.
