News from the RG65 Class – March 2025
We are now just a few weeks away from the first RG65 TT series race in Birkenhead, followed shortly afterwards at Fleetwood. These races are a great spectacle, with the boats sailing at an incredible speed for their size. Currently there are over 1500 of them registered to MYA members, so why not get yours out and join us this year, if not, find someone at your club who may want to have a go. With a typical fleet of less than 20 we are able to get a lot of sailing in.
Sailing is always fun and lighthearted, but also competitive, as it should be.
We have tried to look carefully at the locations and calendar dates for this year, with races around the country from March through to November, and we are always seeking ways to improve the RG65 racing season and all thoughts are welcome. We are aware of clashes of races during the year and are always seeking ways to reduce this and may amend the calendar for races later in the year.
In France particularly there has been an exponential growth in this class, so much so that a few of the UK skippers are starting to attend the National events in France, Belgium, Holland and further afield.
The boats are relatively inexpensive compared to other classes and not many are aware that a DF65 complies with the RG65 rules when using rigs A to C (i.e. not with the A+). so this allows any DF65 sailors to enter the RG65 TT series races. Most of the RG65 boats rigging is the same as a DF65 and is readily available, and with the rise in accessible, top, 3d print files available we expect to see a rise in the sailing fleet size over the coming years.
