MYA Scottish District IOM Travellers 1 (25th March 2023)

The MYA Scottish District IOM Travellers 1 was hosted by Paisley MYC. This was the first Scottish District IOM Event to be held at Barshaw Park for more than six years due to severe problems with weed. Everyone was grateful to Renfrewshire Council for removing a large quantity of weed-infested silt from the pond during 2022 and look forward to a period of weed–free sailing.

With a gentle breeze from a little east of south, Race Officer Robert Rooney and his team laid a port rounding triangle with the starboard end buoy of the start line the leeward mark followed by a full-length beat to the finish. Around midday the wind shifted, coming from the east and so the course was moved to lie along the southern bank of the pond. In the light breeze, “A” rig comfortably remained the order of the day. Racing was close with minimal contacts, partly because the skippers were close to the marks and could clearly see overlaps and relative positions.
