MYA Radio League (ACERSAIL) 2025 Season
I make no apology for reminding members that the key objective of the Radio League is:- competition to further clubs’ enthusiasm for open racing and to encourage club members to enter Open events, both at their Home Water and at Away events in support for their club.
Before I go any further at this juncture, I must, not only acknowledge all those that took part in this season’s MYA Radio League competitions, but special mention must go to Paul Middleton from Fleetwood who, in the truest possible spirit of the Radio League, came in second place overall with a score of 2832.89 points having participated in no less than 48 events. Well done Paul, just overtaken on 12th October!! By Nigel Barrow, the eventual winner.
It has been great to see the number of participants increasing again. One of the most encouraging aspects has been the net increase in the number of skippers taking part in League Qualifying events, up from 472 to 493.
Over the whole season there were scores obtained for 125 of the final scheduled 130 events. It may have felt like even more as the season progressed although there were a few cancelations of events especially during the last couple of months. However, this also illustrates that some clubs not providing their results by the close of the season, might well have missed out on higher positions.
(NO RESULTS provided means competitors don’t get their points and the host club will NOT receive its hosting bonus)
Do PLEASE remember to email me a copy of the results from any OPEN event that your club hosts.
Of the 493 different skippers who entered the various events, 120 of those either entered for the first time or upon returning to Open event racing.
The total number of race entries across the 125 events was 2227 and even when overseas competitors and non MYA members are extracted, can be broken down into 538 at the respective host club, 849 from within their respective district and, impressively 840 entered events at clubs in districts other than their own.
This clearly illustrates that the key objective of the League is being sustained.
Unfortunately, It seems that the main message about being an MYA member to be able to enter Open MYA events still is NOT getting through with 7 UK non-affiliated members taking part!
If they were at your event get them to join the MYA.
Turning to the final competition outcomes, for the individual competition, 4 skippers managed to score more than 2300 points each, in reverse order:- John Tushingham (2367.9), Peter Baldwin (2650.2), Paul Middleton (2832.9) but the overall winner with 2922.7 points is Nigel Barrow. This had looked a close run thing especially for the latter part of the season and the final small difference can be seen from the statistics. Congratulations to Nigel and all the other skippers who took part, not least the 30 skippers who all recorded in excess of 1000 points.
The club competition saw 84 clubs with skippers entered, and 38 different clubs hosted events and the leading 4 clubs (all over 8000 points) in reverse order were:- Lincoln (8995), Datchet Water (11484.9), Birkenhead (14277.9), but the winning club, for the fifth successive season was Fleetwood with 14878.9 points.
In the most improved clubs competition, 44 clubs scored more than 100% of their previous season scores but the overall biggest improvers, were Rudyard Lake.
Congratulations and thanks therefore go, not only to the actual winners but to all those that either took part in racing or organisation of events.
May I just make one more plea for host clubs to PLEASE send me through copies of the final results of their various events, especially including members’ personal MYA numbers. The BEST format for me to receive them in is a copy of the HMS file in Excel or a format from which I can copy and paste the data into the Excel application.
(PLEASE NOT PDF’s as if I therefore have to re-enter data there is no guarantee that mistakes might slip in)
My contact details are at the bottom of the ACERSAIL page.
My view is that the current time is not the most suitable to consider if any changes to the Radio League Regulations are required and I therefore propose that the current regulations should remain in place for the 2026 season, and subject to Council’s approval, I am pleased to confirm my willingness to continue the role of Radio League Secretary for the forthcoming season.
For more details of the final results and especially to view the Trends Analyses, to be uploaded within the coming weeks, please visit the MYA web site at https;//www.mya-uk.org.uk/mya-radio-league/
