Midland District A Class championship 2018 & PRACC r3 Report.

Held at Sutton sailing Club organised by BMYC

The second running of the MD A Class Champion ship this year doubled up with PRACC round 3.

The stage was set, sunshine, race officer, marker buoys what else could you need – oh yes wind. Unfortunately, the nice steady westerly that was ordered spectacularly failed to turn up.

Alan Skitt the RO tried to make the best of what there was to get things moving quickly and two races were held before a complete revamp of the course and move of the control area, movement of marks became necessary several times through the day. Despite the difficulties 13 races were completed before the wind disappeared completely.

Five different skippers took wins with Chris Harris and Peter Wiles trading 1st and 2nd places throughout the day but Chris’s consistency from race seven to thirteen sealed his victory, five points separating them in the end.

Peter Moore was unable to repeat his 1st race bullet and finished third, throughout the fleet many had their good and bad results but all the races were sailed in a very sportsman like manner and enjoyed by all competitors even if their overall finishing positions wasn’t quite what they had hoped for.

We look forward to the third running of this event in 2019 possibly at a different Midland District venue.
