October 15, 20232 yr Whats the technique for fitting deck patches, struggling to get a neat finish, they either end up wrinkled or slack, probably waterproof, but look like a 6 year old has put them on !!
October 15, 20232 yr Put just a small drop of washing up liquid in water and spray just enough to wet the deck. The patch will slide about very easily giving you loads of time to position exactly. Leave to dry out and patch will stick to the deck. Edited October 15, 20232 yr by RoyA Spelling
October 15, 20232 yr The stuff I use from Profabrics will heat shrink a bit. Put it on as best you can, then wave a heat gun in it's general direction and it shrinks tight. Strangely the black stuff seems to shrink better than the dark red stuff?
October 15, 20232 yr Make a little tab with an off cut so you have something to get hold of if you need to peek inside.
October 15, 20232 yr Have a look at the 'BG Sails & Design' site. Brad under the boat maintenance section recommends fitting patches dry to a well cleaned deck.
October 15, 20232 yr https://www.profabrics.co.uk/products/adhesive-dacron Buying it by the metre is maybe OTT if you own a Dragon but my 10R & M use quite a bit. I also use it for sail re-enforcement and sail numbers so I get through it.
October 16, 20232 yr Contrary to the above, I use a strong solution of washing up liquid in water in a small plant sprayer bottle, and a couple of sprays to make sure the area is wetted, you can slide the patch around easily, then leave it to dry. Use it every time I sail my DF65 and it's so easy for the battery patch (which I have to change every time). I need to "re-patch" my Sedici and will do the same with that.
October 16, 20232 yr Used to work in the sign industry and we would uxe a couple of drops of fairy liquid wet both survaces position the patch and .ightly squeegee some lf the water out, if you use gloss patches you should be able to sqeegee tnem dry
