  1. Thanks for the response, looking for a 'legal' boat. Good luck with the sale Mike
  2. Do you know what desin this may be and does it have a certificate ? Thanks Mike
  3. Im tempted, would like to gain an understanding of how Vane sailing works. I am based in North Wales and because of other commitments (big boat sailing) wouldnt be able to arrive until late on the 28th. Does the event start on the Sunday or Monday ?
  4. Looking at this from a newcomers viewpoint, is it any wonder beginners are 'pushed' towards one design classes like the DF95? when we are argueing about the shape of a kicking strap fitting, i'm tempted to say 'get a life', but I guess if you have invested heavily in a state of the art IOM then you would take a different view, but for most of us in the 'real' world who sail for fun, its irrelevant. When you also factor in the prohibitive cost of a competitive IOM (and Marblehead for that matter), its maybe no surprise that we struggle for new members, just saying.

It would seem that there is no interst in 'vintage' raters?

Have recently purchased a restored 10 Rtaer, originally built in 1948, sail number K1043, Kaytellen. Would it be possible to register this boat and make it 'legal' ? if so, what do I need to do? Is there a vintage arm associated with the class ? Many thanks Mike
  7. Having just bought a vintage 10 rater (1948) I looked at the Vintage Model Yacht Group wbsite but it seems to be dormant, or is there another site ?
  8. It has long been the case in dinghy classes that the sails are delivered measured and certified by the sailmaker. Random checks at regional and national meetings ensure that the sailmakers are providing legal sails. Also most 'full scale' sailmakers use laser cutting for sail panels ensuring consistently sized and shaped sails.

Whats the technique for fitting deck patches, struggling to get a neat finish, they either end up wrinkled or slack, probably waterproof, but look like a 6 year old has put them on !!

Thanks Eric, will have a read and see what I can glean from the rules, watch this space !!

Having bought a Nimbus to get me started in this new to me interest, I am now building an Alternative design (Have built 'full size boats in the past) which is proving an interesting challenge, however despite searching, possibly in the wrong places, I can fin no measurment rules for the class which define things like height of mast, depth of keel, weights etc. I am sure they are there somewhere, just cant find them, a steer in the right direction would be helpful Thanks
  12. Many thanks Keith, might pop in some time, what days do you race ?
  13. Many thanks

  15. Many thanks Graham, New to site, how do I retrieve messages ?
