  10. GBR 5222 Ellipsis design by Frank Russell. Hull epoxy/glass finished in navy blue 2-pack polyurethane, deck wood with epoxy glass sheathing both sides. Built by very experienced builder. Measured with current certificate dated 18th September 2025 (corrected up to minimum weight with 250 grammes). Dave Creed fin, ballast and rudder, SW22HV winch and ‘A’ rig with Housemartin sails and PJ ball raced gooseneck – everything new at build. Single line winch system a la DF. Very little used – club race winner with great potential and a much-admired boat. For sale as I have to make room for another new build!! A virtually new boat for £725. I have suitable packing materials and can send it at cost. Just needs radio and battery to race. Located central South Coast. BH25 7BQ.
  11. Derek, Just an update from the IOM Registrar. It seems this IOM was originally yours. I have found an old photo of the boat sailing with your personal number on the sails (67). It must have been sometime after 1996. The registrar mentions below.... Hull 1667 is on the register as a Paracite named Para+, according to the register Derek was the original owner, first measured by A Kissick 23/05/1996. It was last owned by Iain Ferguson from 03/2008. JT
  12. My advice, and iirc that of others, is to leave 'em alone unless you have a problem ("if it ain't broke...."). As you say, risk of weakening the threads and making a non-problem into a bad one...? My 95 is a few years old and I've not had leaks.

    I’ve read that it is advisable to seal deck eyes on new hulls to prevent potential water ingress. Presumably this is best done by removing the deck eyes first? Is there any danger that this might weaken the grip on the threads when reinserting? Should the deck eyes be reinserted before the seal is dry? Any and all advice appreciated David

    Over 30 years ago, I created a Mark 2 version of my then-popular Paracite design. Two hulls were built just in time to compete in the 1996 European Championships in Fleetwood. Additionally, my IOM also raced in Portugal that same year. I often find myself wondering about the fate of my previous boats, and I must admit that I've regretted parting with some of them in the past. Today, to my surprise, I stumbled upon my old Paracite 2 design (it still has the Whirlwind Winch)! It was tucked away in the darkest corners of the Greenock clubhouse, forgotten for decades. Who knows how this 30-year-old IOM made its way back to me in Greenock? All I know is that I’m taking it with me to Florida; it’s going to be my ‘Pimp’ project, and it will return to the lakeside.   21. There is a very good diagram in the original MYA Handbook - also saved on the website. This states sizes, and distances that if followed gives good legibility at distance for the IRSA international classes. Slightly small digits and rules are published for the Dragons and their smaller sails. One thing that often gets missed is the thickness of the letters, a very thin letter may pass the rules and look nice but it is very hard to see at distance, ideally keep the strokes of the letters 20mm thick. I'd stick with Helvetica, Arial or Gill Sans that all give good legibility across the varying digits. Regarding 01-10, 08-80, 18-81 etc Always place a '1' in front to stop the confusion. 101, 110,108,180, 118,181. Remember others need to identify your boat by its sail number if you are calling for water at a mark, if they can't identify you then good luck in the protest room.

  37. I have been asked to repair/refurbish a vane and it is not something that I have come across before. Any of you guru's out there able to identify it for me. More importantly, I think that there are some bits missing from the set of sprung arms that are attached to the base of the feather holder and would appreciate any advice on these please. Any help would be appreciated. Best Wayne

  40. Defintely good publicity for our sport. Even if it gets the odd bod racing just over winter during the dinghy 'off season' (till their knees are gone), its all good. To clubs out there: Y&Ý are happy and willing to put RC Sailing events on their site - LRSC's club IOM results n reports go up there.
