We are pleased to announce a new MYA Club in the Northern District. South Lakes…
Once again Askern RSC is moving “onward and upward”. Paul Rudkin has sent this article about a change of sailing location for next year, as detailed below:
Changes at Askern Radio Sailing Club.
It doesn’t seem four years since Joanne and me were standing on the edge of Askern Lake saying, “we could form a sailing club here.”
After much negotiation with Askern Council and working hard to overcome some resistance, a club was formed. Membership three. Since then, with a great deal of hard work by several people, the membership has steadily grown to in excess of sixty members. Some experienced and some novice sailors.
As the club has grown so has the standard of sailing, helped by continuing advice and training.
For some time it has been obvious that the water at Askern was becoming less and less suitable both in size and wind quality, limiting what, as a club, we can achieve. Added to this is the small annoyance of a minority of uncooperative fishermen and youths intent on causing disturbance to us so when the chance came to move to a better sailing environment our members jumped at it.
Our location will, from next year (1st February 2020), will be at The Blue Lagoon, Northfield Lane, Womersley. This is geographically well positioned just of the A1 and A19. The site itself is a diving training centre with 6m deep water. The lake is 500m long and 200m wide. We have uninterrupted use of an area 200m x 200m at the southern end of the lake. The lake is reasonably open and should provide much fairer sailing.
Facilities included a café, toilets, showers, safety boats and ample parking. It is also a private and secure site.
I hope in the future we will see many of you sampling this new facility.
