IOM Scottish Wooden Hull Championship 2010 Brechin – 26th June 2010

Report by Ralph Knowles  Score sheet

10 skippers entered this popular event for home build wooden hulled IOMs. Many of the boats had been built by the skippers themselves and a couple had even been designed by their skipper.

The day started with very light conditions and a very short course, but fortunately the light variable breeze increased and enabled a larger course to be set after the first race.

With an insufficient number of pond side persons being available to form a full time race team, each competitor took a turn as observer/finisher and were given a complimentary third place for their efforts except in the last two races 11 & 12 where there was no by boat as everyone had done thier by boat duty by thrn.

Congratulations are due to Ian Dundas from Aberdeen for winning with his own Barracuda design, closely followed by Steve Taylor also from Aberdeen, with Boyd Baird from Brechin coming in third. Steve and Boyd were sailing a Bantock Zig Zag design which is very popular with the home builders at present.
