Event 1 re-re-run after two weather postponements

After the dominance of the “Woodies” at Aberdeen in February, the “Plastic Fantastics” were well to the fore at Brechin. Ian Dundas, Stealth, sailed to win in his usual steady manner with his discards being 4ths or less. Colin Deakin, Widget II, starting on 20 seconds start advantage and progressing to 10 seconds, took second overall. He will soon be on Scratch. Brian Robertson, Italico, managed to hold on to number two rig, along with David Stewart, Wooden Isis, when all the rest had changed to number three. Fortunately it seems to have paid off, with no damage, as they managed to hold on to third and fourth places.

As was forecast, the chilly wind increased early in the event and was accompanied by squally showers. By lunch the rain had abated but there was still a very gusty wind. Casualties were surprisingly few, and with a relatively short course the event moved along quickly. Later, after weather front passed, the sun emerged from the gloom and everybody started to enjoy themselves, except Ali Law, who had receiver failure, and had to pack his boat away. Infringements were all dealt with on the water and penalties were all taken as called.

With the strong wind conditions experienced, it will stand everybody in good stead for the event up at the ‘windy corner’, (Buchanness), scheduled next weekend.

Colin McGinnis brought along a visitor from N.Wales, Chris Dibbs, who has experience sailing ‘full size’. This was his first foray into IOM and he went away quite impressed, with intentions of getting more involved. Well done Colin and Chris.

Summary, Good Sailing, Good Company, Good ‘Krak’

First 3 positions were:

  1. Ian Dundas – Aberdeen – 20 points
  2. Colin Deakon – Buchanness – 47 points
  3. Brian Robertson – Buchanness – 48 points
