2026 MYA 6M National Championship Bournville RS&MBC results.

I have not been long home after two days of 6M sailing at Bournville RS&MBC for the MYA National Championship. The initial entry was 22 but with a couple of no shows we actually booked in 19 skippers on the Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. My role was Scorer with Peter Moore and Stephen Hodgkinson doing the PRO and ARO duties all weekend. Peter was on the finish line doing the recording with a couple of helpers who did it in shifts, then there was a couple of observer marshals, and Vic Bellerson doing the Fleet Board. Then I can only quote Roger Hopper, “A big thank you to all who made this weekend’s event so successful – race management, food procurement, scoring, wed control, goose poo sweeping, broken boat repair service and boat house preparation. Alan not only sailed but also spent time between heats to help fix Ian’s boat. First there in the morning and still helping when I left, thanks.

So to the sailing on Saturday we had light wind which came from the direction of the club house which meant that Peter M had to start on a line to the bridge side of the top end of the pool with a zig zag course to get any sort of windward element. What with the rain and wind strength and direction we did well to get 7 races completed by 16:30.

Saturday was also classified as a round of the Midland District 6M Champion Skipper Series, and the leading skipper was Shaun Holbeche.  See results here: 2026 MYA 6M National Championships & MD6MCS Saturday

Sunday we started at 9:30am with the skippers briefing and the prize presentation by Peter M of the top three skippers in the Midland 6M series. The weather was much kinder with a sort of down the pool wind that had more bite, and it was not raining. With a couple not starting today we reordered the Fleet board and was away on time with two laps and a half windward beat to a finish line. The wind slowly picked up during the day and yes we had a small squall that had even 6M’s ducking and diving at times. Racing continued at a steady pace and the race team managed to complete 16 races in the weekend which considering the fact that the wind did not play on the first day it is a reflection on the skippers co-operation that we managed to finish on time and sufficient races in the system for 3 discards.

Peter M did the prize presentation and here are the overall results: 2026 MYA 6M National Championships & MD6MCS and a few pictures of the presentation. Congratulations to Shaun Holbeche on winning the title again.

A few pictures by Pere Moore, possibly more to come when we have done some editing.
