2022 IOM Veterans Nationals Report and Results
The IOM Veterans Championship took place on 28th and 29th May hosted by Woodspring MSC.
25 sailors entered but unfortunately 2 had to withdraw just prior to the event.
It was decided to sail 2 fleets throughout the weekend and this worked very well.
Race Officer for the weekend was Nick Martin, assisted by Errol Edwards and on Saturday Alan Barnstable helped throughout the day and John Cant on Sunday morning. Sue (wife) recorded the scores throughout the weekend.
Saturday saw the wind coming from the North, not the best direction, but a perfect course was set, by mid-morning the wind changed to the West and a longer course was set to reflect this.
Tony Edwards was leading, with Nigel Burrows and Austin Guerrier following closely behind, at the end of day 1.
Saturday evening several of the sailors, their partners and some family enjoyed a meal at the local Italian restaurant.
Day 2 saw the wind coming from the West, so a similar course was set by Nick and Errol.
The top 3 places were constant throughout the weekend with the 4th place changing throughout the second day.
Good sportsmanship was displayed during the weekend, Trevor Annels and Roger Prout had winch problems and all the sailors agreed that they could sail a different boat for the event.
The event saw good humour, sportsmanship, perfect weather and no protests throughout the weekend.
Well done to Tony Edwards for winning 2022 1OM Veterans Championship.
Thank You to all who sailed, organised and helped to make this an enjoyable weekend.
