The Notice of Race (NOR) is the document that outlines the when, where and how of a race day or event, this can be a simple as a poster for club or district event up to a full document for MYA Ranking, Nationals or IRSA International events.
The Guidance notes below advise which is the appropriate NOR to use, with templates also available.
Guidance Note For Drafting a Notice of Race
Introduction
This guidance note is intended to help organisers to draft an appropriate Notice of Race (NOR) It covers three levels of NOR:
- The detailed NOR that is required for national championships
- A simpler version for national ranking events.
- A poster version that can be used for district series and open events.
Club racing events do not normally require an NOR. Club events can be covered by the publication of the club’s annual sailing calendar and the use of club sailing instructions.
For World and European Championships the NOR is normally defined by the Class Association and in the case of IRSA recognised classes the content of the NOR is governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-12 Appendix J1.
In addition to advising competitors of the details of the event, the NOR also provides useful local information on accommodation, parking, social events etc. Such information may also be posted on the website of the host club or on an event blog when these are available.
Before drafting an NOR, read MYA Regulations for National Championships, MYA Regulations for National Ranking Events and the SSI’s as the rules and procedures that apply are prescribed within them.
Avoid duplicating matters in the NOR that are covered in the SSI’s.
NOR for National Championships
For all MYA recognised National Class Championships a default NOR is posted in the MYA Yearbook giving the date, venue, host club and details of entry.
The MYA recommends that this default NOR in the Yearbook is replaced by a detailed NOR.
This should be issued by the host club well ahead of the event in order to give potential entrants all the information they will need to enter and to book their travel and accommodation.
Drafting a National Championship NOR
An MS Word template is available for download in the Race Management section of the MYA Knowledge Base. (Attached below)
This template can be easily configured to suit any National Championship. The resulting NOR will cover all that is necessary and will ensure that other applicable MYA regulations such as MYA SSI’s are properly linked.
After downloading the NOR template, enter or amend information in the areas indicated between brackets in red italics (Enter ….) Delete any sections that are not relevant to the specific event and renumber the sections.
Remember to convert any red text to black in the final document.
