Screw pot lid foam or rubber seal

Featured Replies

Looking for the foam or rubber material that fits inside the screw pot lid to create a better seal.

I have seen some blue type material being used but don't know the spec or where to buy it from.

Thanks

Hi John, use a piece of soft rubber about 1mm thick, don't use foam or sponge for the obvious reason and don't use vaseline as all sorts of foreign bodies will stick to it.

As Graham says, you don't want anything that's going to rip/shear when tightened, and don't grease it.

I daresay there's suppliers who do sell a such a custom made seal, at a price. But if it were me - esp. if urgent - I'd trawl thru cupboards for suitable odds and ends of 'whatever' (OK, I'm a bit of a hoarder!). Even a piece of very dense cardboard is going to give a decent seal for a day or two at a time. Might be short-lived and a bit sacrificial, but if you can find summat to hand, and its cheap...?

Hi John

In the past I have cut a seal from an old car inner tube. Just need to find a section with no ribs. Can probably obtain a dead tube from a friendly tyre shop. The other material I have looked at is pond liner in lighter gauge.

Inside a coffee jar lid is sometimes a soft plastic disk you can use.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. The last time out I got some water on the receiver and the rudder servo stopped working. Assumed it was a receiver issue yet it turned out the servo was dead. Having done a bit of googling it turns out that water across the servo plug can actually short the insides of the servo out.

Walking around Wickes like you do and came across this. Measures 65mm diameter and once you cut a ring from the rest of the connector it fits perfectly into the screw lid. Cheap at £2.
