January 3, 20233 yr Sorry lent on the send button. Anyway he had it set up so that there was a small load on the winch when fully sheeted in order to hold some tension on the lever. Obviously this does mean that the servo is drawing some current but with an old fashioned analogue servo with a simple proportional control algorithm this is not a major problem as the current is small and remains constant over time. However many of these modern digital servos are a bit cleverer and include an integral term in the control algorithm, which means that they slowly increase the current with time if the servo hasn't achieved its desired position. Hopefully the servo is designed so that this does no damage but it can mean that the servo is drawing a significant current when fully sheeted in and hence the battery doesn't last as long as you might expect. I suspect that not all servos will behave like this but it's worth thinking about if you use a gizmo or have your boat set up with the sailwinch under constant load at the end(s) of the travel.
January 4, 20233 yr As someone planning to join the IOM fleet this is really good news. Having an option on the winch reduces the price but more importantly protects against the class being very restricted if the ( almost sole) winch supplier stopped production for any reason
March 8, 20233 yr The SW22HV comes with the small Futaba plug which one would normally use to connect to a receiver Are you happy to feed the power to this winch through the receiver?
September 22, 20232 yr Hi, I recently purchased a KingMax SW22HV sail winch and like others, found it difficult to program. After eventually getting things working, I decided to put up some info about the process on github. Tested on Windows 7 https://github.com/kwikius/KingMaxServoProgrammer Please feel free to add info, make comments etc. Overall the SW22HV seems to be a very versatile and capable winch servo. Just let down by the software! regards Andy
October 4, 20232 yr I have purchased a SW22HV and the Digital programmer and reprogrammed to my IOM settings successfully (3 1/4 turns in my case). I have a question: I have also bought a big brother (to the 22HV): a Kingmax SW02CS 77g which is on factory setting of 7 turns. I want to reprogram to about 5 turns for my RM but the Programmer does not want to know. Has anybody tried to reprogram this winch, if so how did you do it. Component shop supplied the Programmer and say that it should work on all Kingmax programmable winches not just the SW02CS. HMMMM................
November 8, 20241 yr I've just purchased the SW22HV and programmer. Eventually got the software to work but all I get is ERROR when I try to read or write to the servo. Mine is currently 1.5 turns and can crank up to 2.25 using end point adjustments. Need it to be 3.5 with the 30mm wheel. Any help...... please PS the helpful response I had from component shop was a link to same as in thus thread not from their site and it doesn't work on anything above windows 10. I've tried on windows 10 and 8 same happens. I think programmer is dodgy...thoughts?
November 9, 20241 yr Morning Neil I bought the 61g winch from the Component shop about 3 years ago to replace the winch in my Tonic (the boat I was sailing Thursday) and had a similar problem. I don't recall at the time them saying that I needed to buy a separate digital programmer. I ended up just fitting a slightly larger drum and set the end points to max and managed to get enough travel that way. I'm pretty sure Tony B bought one for his Gadget a bit after me, might be worth having a word with him on Thursday see if he had the same issue and how he got round it. Alternatively have a chat with the Component shop as I notice they now say on their website for the 61g winch:- 'As default the sail winches are now supplied pre-programmed to 6 turns (assuming standard 1ms - 2ms transmitter pulse) we can supply them programmed to whatever you need but you must contact us before making the purchase to let us know, otherwise the standard 6 turn sail winch will be shipped. We previously shipped the sail winches as they were received from the factory, which sometimes were set to around 2 turns. If you need one of these earlier supplied units to be reprogrammed, we are happy to do this, just get in touch with us for more details' Cheers Laurie
November 9, 20241 yr First thing to check is the driver. If you go to Device Manager, under USB Controllers you should see USBXpress Device (with the card connected). Open this and select the driver tab. The one that works for me is signed by Silicon Labs Software, dated 14/07/2010 and version 3.3.0.0. If this is working the LED should go green when you plug in the card. Start Dsconfig V2.1, press reflash USB, then read config. LED should stay green throughout.

Yes ive been through all this exactly as you have put, mine goes red and logs an error message at the read stage and goes red. I've tried a desktop Windows 10, laptop windows 10, tablet running windows 8 same thing happens on all. I've even tried different leads to no avail. Think either the servo or programmer not working as they should. I'm returning both to component shop and asking them to set it to 4 turns, replace as necessary.

I purchased the additional programmer to be able to set it wherever I needed. Unfortunately this is where the problems now lie.😪
