A-class - carbon fibre mast and boom, hitek winch and servo. Ready to sale
Got an a-class for sale. Very nice boat bought second hand a few years ago. Has been used and maintained since. Have advertised elsewhere but looking to get a 1m so can't have more than one. Would swap if interested.

Handicap for multi-class racing?
Thanks Ian, yes I think that's how the club set up races. I guess i'm wondering if a 1 meter, a 6 meters, a marblehead, a 36, a df95 and df65..etc, were all racing; who would start first, and what would be the approximate handicaps/delayed start time be for each class? How could this be worked out? It would be great to have our older wooden boats able to compete more fairly with their younger fibreglass siblings. As we have the same course each week, by timing a boat from each classes finish time with the same sailor helming each boat to eliminate sailor skill, then working out the adjustment needed for each finish time to be identical, we should be able to create a rough handicap for each class to allow boats to compete against one another in a single staggered start race. I'm not an experienced sailor with much race experience but I am on the right track?

Clapham Model Yacht club: Members Forum
Dear CMYC members, Thought we could set up a forum space to add to the Whatsapp group to give club members a place to discuss all CMYC matters, suggest club improvements, argue about racing decisions and generally have an online chinwag. I hope that this falls under the bracket of club chat (forum admin: please let me know if this is the correct place for this topic post). With lots of change over the past few years and finally seeming to have put a stop to the councils underhanded attempts to turn our clubhouse into yet another coffee shop, we can start to think about the clubs long term plans, with new members signing up across all age groups, encouraging increased participation in the club racing and new offerings to help engage with our community. We have lots to celebrate: our 80 strong fleet of vintage pond yachts for public to freely use has been well used by locals; increased reliability in our 1 and 6 meter fleets are leading to more race day competitiors; the new df65 class of boats being prepared for summer sailing sessions; changes to the clubhouse setup with more accessible/organised workshop area; improved organisation of boat repair schedule and battery charging facilities; and maintenance and improved aesthetic of the external clubhouse areas. Lots has been done; with lots still to do. Have any thoughts on what to do/prioritise next? Pop it here! Happy Sailing CMYC

Handicap for multi-class racing?
Possibly a silly question, but I wondered if there was any handicap formula that might allow multiple classes of RC boats to race against one another? My racing experience in dingy sailing is limited, but different boat classes/designs could race against one another 'fairly' by altering the finishing time of each boat by an agreed handicap. Enabling older RC boat designs to race against much faster, more modern design could be great in RC racing. Does something like this exist? Is it even possible?

New fleet of DF65's
Hi all, We have been building up a new class of DF65's at Clapham Model Yacht Club for club racing and to introduce new sailors to the science of sailing at our pond, Long Pond on Clapham Common. We have a few restrictions on the pond, being relatively shallow (more so in the summer months) but we now have around 15 DF65's and hope to have them all rigged and ready in time for summer. I have been a silent reader of the forum posts here but just wanted to say a huge thank-you for all your info, as its been incredibly useful in getting this all setup. We're not quite there yet but if you ever feel like a Sunday 'away day' sail, and you are somewhere near London, feel free to come and join us for a race some Sunday soon. The cups of tea are on us. Kind Regards Daniel

This footage is awesome! What kit did you use? Definitely expands on the experience of close racing.

Help for beginners
These are really helpful. I agree with Superchef, as a beginner myself i've really struggled to internalise these seemingly simple rules, and during a race I barely know my ares from my elbow, let alone being able to remember which one leeward is again (although I know this will come in time). Any clubs run beginner racing sessions to give newbies a chance to practice without ruining someones race?

Clubs, websites and social media
At Clapham we're trying to use an instagram account alongside a club website to promote our club. We have the main word-press website which hosts the weekly racing results & write-ups in a blog, and has lots of yacht related information, but I copy weekly info from this site and put it on an instagram page. I personally find the # function and layout of insta better suited to promoting the club. The interface of instagram is pretty fool-proof and great for posting photos and highlighting particular events, whereas the more detailed information re boat types and racing rules remains on the main club website. Chris M, the site you have setup is excellent. I have been following it and it is presented really well (The videos for beginners are great). I'd love to have something like this or the HRYC page to be able to add videos to our output. Do you get much engagement outside of the current club membership on these videos? Club Racing Attendance
We could do with setting something like this at Clapham so all the above advice has been extremely helpful. I understand this is for race day attendance, but anyone have any advice on using software to manage memberships? We don't have a glut of members so currently everything is on good old paper files, but does anyone know how clubs are best setup to manage membership digitally?

Junior Club Membership
Our club charges £10 for juniors but has few to speak of. I wondered if I might extend this topic to ask 'How clubs have tried to attract new members?' Do you have many young members at your clubs? If so, how have you engaged with them to hold their interest? Which boats do younger members tend to use? Is there any crossover from the yacht club to the model yacht club? I have seen some clubs in America offer introductory sailing days, and workshops to aid new members on maintenance and modifications but is there anything in the way of a scheme in the UK to get new members engaged with model yachting?
