  2. Don’t suppose you know anyone coming south for the Worlds that could transport to Datchet?
  3. Hi Simon Sorry about the.delay in responding. To explain Craig is making minor changes which are based on very minor detail to suit him in his search for the perfect boat for him to take to the Worids As I understand it the current kit you can buy is version 3 which effectively the same as my V1. If you wish to follow this further you can contact Craig’s agent for the project, John Arundell who can explain all Yes the stand and semi rigid rig back will be included subject to agreement. I’ve included a photo I hope this covers your queries Gordon

  5. How does the Evo fit into the Proteus development series? I have an idea Craig Richards is testing the V5 at the moment. In addition, does your sale include the stand and a rig box? Thank you Simon

  13. This hull was built from the 3D printed kit of parts supplied by John Arundel and completed by myself to the highest standard last September. She has a measurement certificate and is at minimum. My intention at the time was that she would be my last of a long line of IOM's. Sadly since then my fitness has rapidly declined to the point where I can no longer sail competitively, so reluctantly she must go. The boat is completely fitted out with fittings from Sails etc , an S100 Mk 2 sail winch connected to a waterproof RMG deck switch, and has a Hitec waterproof rudder servo. The top suit is a little used moulded set to Crag Richards specification from Sailboats, while 2nd and 3rd are unused and from Pierre Gonnet. Price is negotiable around £800. 15. Hi Ian Glad to hear you got it sorted. As I stated in the originl post the Futaba T6J is not very intuative to use! It is however fairly robust and reliable to use. Just keep it dry and be careful where you position the aerial on rx if your Marblehead hull is carbon. Happy sailing with your controller. Eric
  16. Thank you to all the adjustment advice. I have tried them all and they worked, but a rather confusing piece of kit. Thank you all

Ian Vickers has passed away, a true gentleman and expert sailor and builder of IOM’s. As a customer of Ian I have nothing but praise and respect for his boats and his brilliance and his dedication. He will be very much missed

Very lightly used df95 Apologies I am selling for a late friend and I don't really know much about these. I don't think it has been sailed more than a few times. the boat looks complete but i don't have a controller or any batteries. There are 3 complete rigs in a box with very nice looking sails, there is some corrosion on some of the kicker fixings but I suggest this is only minor. I will try and get the boat powered up if you want to see it working. The boat is in Essex CO2 My number is 07880191762 £275

  27. I just received this email. John Sadly Ian Vickers passed away today holding his daughter hand. What an incredible talent, what an amazingly nice person. He will be missed by us all.
  28. Brad makes a terrific point. Three ideas. One. We already have a Ranking weekend which usually comprises two days, one event on each day, and each event counts separately. Now the Nationals weekend usually comprises three days, so let's make each day a separate event, exactly as per a Ranking Event. The trick is to have the weekend declare a National Champion, so here are the additional regulations we need. (A) The National Championship shall comprise a Championship Series, being the three Ranking Events of the weekend. (B) All the Events of the Championship Series shall count. Well, of course, if you prefer, you could have 2 of the 3 Events to count. (C) The seeding of boats for Race 1 of Event 2, and for Race 1 of Event 3, shall be according to their current position in the Championship Series, with other boats according to their current Ranking positions. (D) Each Event of the Championship Series shall count 100 points, or if you prefer, 120 points. Or 125. Or any number you like. Two. We'd like the National Championship Event to somehow count more than an "ordinary" Ranking Event. Instead of giving it 200 points, or 150 points, or whatever, let's give a Bonus Ranking Point for each position above mid-fleet that a boat finishes in the Event. So the Nat Champs counts 100 points just like any other Ranking event, but now (74 boat entry) the 38th boat gets 49 points or so and no bonus, the 37th gets 51 points plus 1 bonus, while the first place boat gets 137 points (100 plus 37) and it is the 16th place boat which gets 101 (79 plus 22). Well, of course, if you prefer, you could have a bonus of 2 points for each place above mid-fleet. Or 3 points for each place above three-quarter fleet position. Or any bonus you like for each place above any other position you like. Three. Combine One and Two, and replace (D) in Idea One with Idea Two.

Yes, Ian is very ill, and our thoughts are with him and his family. As I understand it, the V12 is identical to the V11 - the V11 mold was damaged and a new mold was made, and boats from the new mold were called V 12. Here is a copy of the V11 guide. John V11 Set Up Guide.docx

Hi all, im after some information to any of you who could answer this please. I recently had a new V12 delivered, but I do not have the V12 set up guide, but I do have the V11 one. I have sent Ian an email, but understand he is not well, so understandably he hasn't responded to date. Keen to get the rigs built I have 2 questions to the forum. Q1 Does anyone have a V12 set up guide they could share? Q2 If anyone knows if the dimensions in the V11 are the same as the V12. Many thanks Neil
  35. If someone could point out where anything I have suggested constitutes a ‘free ride’ to an easy selection as opposed to the lopsided ‘…packet’ sytem now back in use, I would welcome it. A ranking race winner scores 100 points. A 37th place finisher in a 74 boat Nationals scores the same 100points. Not hard to see why successful Olympic Sailing nations moved away from singular events holding such biased weighting years ago….
  36. Gents, A little "ranking" history. Back in 1986 Fleetwood were hosting the RM worlds, in May. The RM Nationals also held at Fleetwood at Easter was chosen as the qualifying event for MYA sailors, for the worlds. It worked O.K. and the top 10 ish got places in the Worlds in May. The worlds happened the French sailors were victorious & the rest is history.; But it was pointed out that a "one shot" qualification isn't enough, so the ranking system was designed by Mr Bantock with the idea of almost "forcing" the top sailors to compete against each other a number of times a year. Single race days scored 100 points & the nationals scored 200 points. GB devised a "simple equation" which anyone could do on a *** packet!! All was well for many years until it was pointed out that someone couldn't do the nationals due to family commitments, so unbeliveably the system was changed to accommodate them. But surely, if we're trying to find the best sailors we should make the ranking as tuff as possible? Olympic sailors don't get free rides!!
  37. Hi Colin, the rankings have stood the test of time and work well. The recent “tweak” is just a blip and just needs a readjustment to bring it back inline.
  38. As a sciency type - but with no detailed knowledge of past/present systems either...! - I'd just chime in that you can prove most arguments with statistics/maths, especially for particular examples. More pragmatically perhaps, I'd suggest stripping the problem down - what is the aim of the Ranking, and what is the best fit for that aim. (If its toooo broke then maybe it needs a back-to-basics look, rather than trying to just tweak/evolve). If (?) its Ranking towards international qualification, then why not miss out Nationals result altogether? As mentioned above, they are significantly larger scale than yer average event, and competing does bring added complications for most re. cost, family, work etc. Or - devil's advocate lol - say only Nationals results! Not a serious suggestion, but is it trying to merge the two angles which causes the dilemma? A dichotomy. (I've had most of my career with people hoping "it's only software, it must be easy" lol)
