DF65 Backstay and Forestay measurements - B Rig (and C)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have suggested length measurements for A+ and A rigs, but not yet for the B rig - I can't find many references to these online.

I'm trying to align measurement points to those in the DF65 manual (i.e. back of bumper or top of hook).

Any suggested lengths for the B rig? And C rig whilst we're here (but I don't yet have the C).

Thanks in advance.

David

Phil Burgess in AUS has produced a Tuning Guide for the DF65 (and one for the DF95) that you could use if you want to use measurements. This is available here.

However, trying to setup a DF65 or DF95 using measurements alone can lead to problems as a measurement is only right for a matching mast stub gate position (from the tuning guide). You can end up with a few problems such as a mast that is too bent or too straight and too much or too little tension in either the backstay or forestay (perhaps even both), just to achieve the same measurements as given in the tuning guide.

Thanks Peter. 👍

Yes, I found that one and have it saved. I was wondering if there were other guides or advice. It’s as if only Phil’s guide exists out there. 🤔

I suppose I’m looking for the ‘starter for ten’ guide, which Phil’s is - but wanted to see if there are other views beyond Phil’s.

Noted your comment/advice above. Thanks again.

Someone recorded a talk that John Tushingham gave at the MYA AGM in 2023 on DF65 setup. Although the sound is rather low in volume, you may be able to pick up some setup ideas. The video is on Youtube:

It's also worth chatting with some of your East Kent members such as Jim La Roche or Dave Adams and get them to talk you through how they setup their boats.

Thanks Peter, I’ll check that out.

Yes, Jim and Dave have both been excellent support during my initial sailing sessions - I hadn’t thought to ask them.

The Phil Burgess guide has been updated, the only thing I've got is a pic of it though...

Guides from Phil for both the DF65 and DF95 can be downloaded from the ADFRSA website via this link but they may be a few updates prior to the 2024 one above.

Sorry, that link is the original, look at what I posted the detail is different e.g. Mast position A+ is 5th line not 3rd...
