April 8, 2025Apr 8 Something I don't yet have in the toolbox is thread for mainsail luff ties. What type and size/strength do people use (for IOM/DF)?
April 8, 2025Apr 8 I use the same line that I use for the sheets - just save the off-cuts, and if really cheap - save the old sheet lines and recycle. John
April 9, 2025Apr 9 Like John I use the same as my sheet lines. The bigger issue is what knot to use to tie them off. Off topic my second IOM uses wire rings which work well for me and never shrink. (anyone know of disadvantages?) Eric

Eric I had a past iom with the hooky wire rings - disadvantage I found was they'd tend to snag on my (woolen) gloves 😄
April 20, 2025Apr 20 30pound fishing line is ample, I also use 3d printed ones on bigger boats, main thing is getting consistent tension on the fastenings try a 3mm rod taped to the mast and tie the lines tight over the rod then remove the rod before sailing
