Storing an IOM, and maybe other boats

Featured Replies

Maybe answered before, but asking again.
The previous owner of my cockatoo, stored it this way as in the picture, weight of keel and weight held by straps.

and it drains out of the front hole, very well and vents well in between sailing it every other week.

New IOM, Kantun 2, asking for other ideas about storage as it has a rear draining stern hole.

Open to ideas and suggestions

Remove the fin from the boat (as per Graham Elliott’s suggestion).

Remove pot cover. (NB For boats with a sealed pot, remove deck patch as per Graham’s suggestion.)

Drain any excess water from boat via drain plug hole.

Store horizontally in warm, dry room.

Works a treat!

Fin off every time… is that the norm, when sailing every other week?

Gets rid of capillary trapped water between fin and fin box.

Reduces water imbibing into fin.

I use a small fan from an old PC to help with hull ventilation when drying the Marblehead or J Class. The J is impossible to hang vertically so the fan is essential. With the hull horizontal any water has a large surface area and dries quickly.
