Marblehead and 10R Worlds 2023????

Featured Replies

Having read the most recent MYA Council meeting docs, mention was made of a World Championships in Italy set down for mid May 2023. This matches information I received from two trusted International radio sailing sources on a recent trip to France.

A look on both International class websites for any confirmation was fruitless with no updates since January from either newly formed association.

Given that the proposed event timeline is less than 10 months away, can class owners look forward to any news from those in the know within council, so that they have opportunity to plan accordingly?

  • 4 months later...

An update has come out for anyone interested in attending the 2023 Worlds, although sent to those near the top of the MYA ranking lists, please contact Phil whatever your position if you would like to be included on the provisional list.

Dear Skippers,

I am writing to you because you are in the top 15 skippers on the Marblehead Ranking list and, or, in the top 10 skippers on the 10 Rater Ranking list. If you know of any other skippers who would like to take up a place, if available, then please forward this email to them.

The combined World Championships for the Marblehead and Ten Rater classes takes place from the 22nd April 2023 to 3rd May 2023 at Castiglione del Lago, Italy. The Marbleheads will race from the 22nd to the 29th April and the 10’s from 1st to 3rd May. The entry process has been delayed slightly to make sure as many countries as possible have been able to join the IMCA and ITCA and send skippers to the Championships and, as a result, the entry forms and the allocation of places are not yet available. It would be of great assistance to the MYA in organising the GBR entry if you could let me know as soon as possible if you wish to apply for a place at the Championships and let me know which, or both, classes you would like to sail.

The provisional NoR can be found here, https://www.m-10rworlds2023.com/notice-of-race/, and as soon as entry forms are available I will be sending them out.

The GBR entry will be chosen from the Marblehead and Ten Rater ranking lists as shown on the MYA website at the end of 2022 in the order of the ranking positions shown therein.

Brad Gibson, as the reigning World Champion in both classes, will have an automatic entry which will not affect the GB allocation.

Many thanks

Phil Holliday

Posted my intent. Anyone decided to drive and willing to carry boats/rigs??

If I decide to drive I’ll advise here and could take other’s boats..

I feel a little disappointed having to make a choice of which Championships to enter. The Marblehead / 10R World Championships being so close to the DF95 Globals at Fleetwood. From a financial point of view the entry is

Marbleheads - 340 Euro  (£300)

10Rater - 240 Euro (£210)

DF95 - £300

Total Cost - £810 (In just a couple of weeks)

Missing the West Kirby Championships in 2020 was heart-breaking after the cost and commitment to qualify. So life moves on and you commit to the DF95 Globals, only to later see the news comes filtering through about another World Championship being run in the same year, actually its worse as they are weeks apart.

I would like to see World and European Championships across the classes spread out more,(Maybe every 5 years). Or is it the case we sail to many classes and you choose your boat?

Regards,

JT

Clubs and organisations run big events at a time which is best for them, taking in to account local conditions  (water availability, accommodation costs, availability of help etc.

So, probably yes, and yes!!

Bottom line......................   No one is forced to go,  Some of us maybe have too big a wish list??!!

I’ve got an Airbnb place booked between the lake and the old town, about 500m from the CVC yacht club.
Im very likely to be driving down on the 22nd arriving on the 23rd with CJ in the car with me.
if anyone is aiming to fly and would like me to take rigs/ boat then let me know as I’ll probably have space for 1 more boat (not person!)
