  1. Thanks chaps both valid points only once a year so got my shopping for Alioth bits and network with various people. Plus visit another club 😀 Never know what someone is selling at Boat Jumble.
  2. In the past is there much to see buy or learn. The DF talk looks interesting but as already asked is it going to be on line for others to see? My other option is to go sailing my IOM need the time on the water & possibility of cake being available. So thought throw the question out to see what consensus is 🤔

Thanks Eric I had a look and started my list of what I want to achieve and steps to help me get there. His website is a great source of information all in the same place. Got me looking at things in a different way 🙂

I am new to the sport not really sailed before in my first year. Enjoy IOM sailing but struggling with how to get boat setup others seem to be able to see sails not trimmed correctly. Just printed off and laminated artical Sail Trimming by Roger Stollery which looks very good. Please can anyone recommend any other sources that can help me get my head around 'What Good Looks Like' 👍 Hopefully then I can have that Eureka moment when it becomes clear. 🧐
  7. Sounds very similar to what is used in fishing for threading elastic through fishing poles. Maybe reduce the length of it.
  8. Time commitments & my typical luck things clash. I have done one which must admit when turning up felt bitten off more than I can chew. But these fears soon put to rest as some of my fellow club sailors and the friendly helpful attitude of host club. The growing of local region travel easier plus getting a date out early so people can put it in diary. Not sure if Saturday or Sunday better personally the former but all different. Asking the question means forward thinking wanting to make it easier.
  9. Just found that Slimfast can lids are a perfect fit so if you know anyone who has them plus a greener option to repurpose things 😀
  10. If it had been closer I would have been keen to help. To increase my knowledge of how my IOM should look like. Also these events are like a Swan all calm on the surface but in the background lots of work goes on to make it happen. I hope the competitors and organisers have a great event. 👍
  11. Paul Just wondering how many Alioth are out there sailing? I know of one that sails with us but heard of a couple more being built. They do offer a more cost effective option and reduced waiting times. Interested to hear of people's experience with them?
  12. Hi Graham I have copied a previous answer that should help you get it sorted. 'Change of ownership is undertaken by the class registrar. All registrar details can be found in the 2020 MYA yearbook pages 48-49 and in the MYA members area under officer contacts. I'm not sure about other classes but the IOM class registrar details are not listed on the GBR IOM website due to data protection of our registrar. https://www.mya-uk.org.uk/forums/topic/2357-class-certificate-change-of-ownershift/?do=findComment&comment=7062'
  13. This is going to be my first open Colin seems very keen to help. Let's see how it goes at least a new venue to sail and some new people to meet. I am sure it will further my knowledge. Thanks for making me feel welcome before even getting to the club. 😊

Eric today highlights the steep learning curve that I have to climb wind reduced and the added curve ball of weed. But also reinforce your point about noting down settings so able to repeat them. Nigel Barrow's Web site does look a very good source of information so think I will be visiting it on a regular basis.

Thanks Eric for your helpful response 🙂 I did see someone sailing a Cookatoo on a video managed to find an email for them. Thought nothing to lose by asking and he replied with some settings so at least have something to start from. Then like you say note down any changes so hopefully able to repeat them 🙏 Just had an early morning sail which things seem to be moving in the right direction 😃 Sunday will be proof when have others to race.
