November 4, 20214 yr Hi I am overhauling my Cockatoo which has the radio and battery fixed inside the hull with velcro under a square deck patch. I'm thinking there must be an access method that doesn't involve taking the patch off every time. Cheers Trevor
November 8, 20214 yr Hi Trevor maybe you could retro fit a pot with glass surround? I presume winch is forward of the mast? Or cut a new hole? Would be useful to see a photo of your boat to suggest a solution. example of a cockatoo with pot below...
November 11, 20214 yr Author Hi Dave As you can see the winch is deck mounted so large access is required. Maybe a clip on GRP hatch would facilitate post sail ventilation as well. Maybe a deck patch is simpler? Cheers Trevor
November 11, 20214 yr I’d be tempted to get a recessed pot plate made up by Sailsetc to solve your problem. https://www.sailsetc2.com/index.php/products-a-spotlight/screw-top-pot.html Check image 7/7 on the above link, retro fitted to a widget. Edited November 11, 20214 yr by Dave Kent
November 11, 20214 yr I would be very tempted to leave as is, that way you are getting good boat ventilation every time you take it home, on my yachts all of which have pots I still remove a deck patch every time I bring them home
November 11, 20214 yr I guess the issue is changing battery during a race series. It’s a big patch to replace every time. You can always pull the servo patch at the end of the day.
November 12, 20214 yr Author Thankyou for your observations. Battery changing is not an issue as one charge is more than enough for our club mornings. I will do as suggested and stick with a patch but fit a deck switch so I don't have to lift the patch to turn on when I get to the lake in case it's raining and the patch won't stick 'cos it's wet. One day I might fit a pot in the style of the Sailsetc solution and use the rudder servo patch for ventilation. Incidentally I have two fan belts fixed to my garage roof that go round the fin and support the hull vertically so any water can drain from the bow hole which greatly speeds up drying. Cheers Trevor
