Radio control rescue boat - ideas / recommendations

Featured Replies

Currently building my second Mini40 trimaran and recall from frequent experiences, these things capsize.

I know the use of radio control rescue boats is not unusual. Any ideas on best type of (cheap) boat and the proven way to equip for rescuing boats in trouble.

Including IOMs etc and not just multihulls.

Richard

Hi Richard, we have found the most effective way is to use the rescue boat to take a line out and found the casualty being the line back and then you can bring the casualty in by hand  less likely to cause damage

Thanks Mike, that makes a lot of sense. I assume that the casualty can not be too far away for this though.

Any sort of motor boat would do the job ?

Richard

I have a plain 35inch long swordsman hull with a brushless motor the line is 80 pound fishing braid I also have a nozzle around the prop to try and prevent the line being caught up, if you can get it floating line is the most effective, I have nearly 150 metres of line on a cheap fixed spool feel and a cut down old fishing rod

Thanks again Mike, that will work.

Just going to look for a suitable (cheap) boat. Point noted about avoiding prop foul.

Swordsman was a beautiful (full size) hull, from Fairey Marine if I remember.
