  1. Thanks Olly There's no hurry (he says! ). As there was no notice on the PS website of a possible delay, nor a note re. a possible delay in the order confirmation email I began to wonder. We've got so used to an almost immediate reply when we buy stuff that no response within a day or two gets us wondering if there's a problem. Should have checked my emails first! David has replied - computer issues. My PC died on Wednesday but it was only(!) the graphics card, popped an old one in and it's OK again.
  2. Hopefully David is OK. Is there a sailing competition he's gone to that slows any response down? I placed an order on the 21st May for a PS stand to be sent to me and expected an invoice to be sent back with the carriage charge added. So far I've only had confirmation of the order. I took the opportunity to add some patch material on the Bank Holiday Friday to come with the stand and got that order confirmation too. I sent an email to ask to put the two orders together. I've also sent a message via the contact form on the PS website, mind you that was only earlier today (Thurs. 30/5). Phoning went to the message service, just tried again and left a message that hopefully someone will respond to.
  3. It does have nice lines Jef. I suppose the best wind for the Dovercourt pond is somewhere between south and south west (our prevailing wind direction ) for end to end sailing. The top pond of these is the yachting pond, the other has pedalos on it these days, used to be rowing boats. Parking can be right beside the pond - if there's space. Public loos a short walk up Lower Marine Parade, cafes up there too. Take walking boots or something - there's a lot of swan poop around the pond.
  4. Very nice Jef. Here's a yacht my dad made, probably in the early 60's. I can remember us taking it down to the yacht pond at Dovercourt in the mid to late 60's. The reason I think it was built in the early 60's is that it's named after me, my pet name was 'Jim' - no one calls me Jim any more. A girl friend did a double take when my mother called me Jim and I responded. Sunny Jim was my baby name, I had a sunny disposition then, the Force breakfast cereal character was Sunny Jim, I can remember that being a breakfast favourite at times. Dimensions are: 36" LOA (ex. bow sprit), 7" beam, 8" deck to bottom of keel. Looking a bit sorry for itself, hasn't sailed since late 60's or early 70's.
  5. +1 for exponential on rudder - I also have a 'curve' on my sail (section 6.3.3). A curve allows for the sail to go out and in a little at close hauled and then progressively more to fully out - I think that's right. I haven't tried it but it could be possible to have an 'S' shaped curve so full in and full out are smaller movements in relation to stick movement with the 'middle' faster. Is anything in this YouTube video review of the FS-ST8? This YouTube video also goes in to radio settings, whole video worth watching but here's the radio part (doesn't matter the yacht class 🙂) I usually find someone has done what I'm trying to achieve on YouTube, hope one of these might help.

Possibly too late? Could the mast be repaired? Bucks Composites have a lot of carbon - rod, tube, tow, sleeve, etc. Make a new one if the tube and rod from Bucks is the right size? https://www.bucks-composites.com/products
