  1. Surgical spirit. Piece of cake. David
  2. Thank you, John. That’s a reassuring assessment. I’m going for it! David
  3. I’m trying to put together a club boat on the cheap. I already have a spare hull and a short keel. Q1: Does the ballast for the long keel also fit the short keel? Q2: How would performance of boat with short keel be affected (club sailing with A rig only)? Q3: Would short keel boat’s performance be less affected in light to medium airs? David
  4. I get that the Joysway transmitter originally provided as part of the RC Yachts package for DF95 has been largely superseded by the FlySky fs-i6, but I’m still struggling to deal with the Joysway on a club boat. Can anyone talk me through, step by step, the process for limiting the throw on the Joysway? I have the flat headed tool, and think I can identify the right “aperture” but please assume zero knowledge this end. Thanks in advance David
  5. Hi Do the finger patches on DF95 sails serve a purpose other than for boat identification or for aesthetics? Conversely, do they have an adverse effect on the way the sail cambers? Does anyone sail without finger patches on theirs? Regards David
  6. Hi Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the AGM on 25th. I’m sure it will be an informative talk, and I hope it will be videoed and put out to members David

I’m slowly getting to grips with sheeting angles, backstay tension, leach twist etc but am still struggling to balance all this with the kicker. Does anyone have any “golden rules” ? David
  8. Ha, ha. Point taken!
  9. Wow, Martin! From all I’ve read, it seems possible that my B rig was never designed to have spreaders. Given that, I plan to set the boat up with the mast in the upright position, with equal tension on both shrouds. …..and a bit of rake. As a point of interest, have IOMs, from the get-go, always had spreaders?
  10. All good, Andy. I will give it a whirl. David
  11. Yes, I see the logic of that. It’s just strange that the mast should be pre-drilled for hooking the shrouds on, but that there are no holes for spreaders to push through as on the A rig mast. I guess there is always the possibility that this is not the original mast. I plan to sail her this Friday (although there probably won’t be a strong enough wind to assess the job fully). David
  12. 👍 Thank you
  13. Thank you, Brad, for stepping in. My IOM is a Cygnet 2, very broad in the beam. Probably dates to c. 1990. It’s my first ever IOM and I am only new to rc yachts. The A rig has spreaders, the B rig doesn’t. The shrouds are at the widest extremities of the deck. I just wondered if this was how it was designed. The mast is round (no groove) goes through a tube to hull floor No mast ram. I accept that the boat will never be competitive, but I would like it to be the best it can be, without spending a shed load of money on it. I know that the A rig fits that bill, but I guess I will just have to suck it and see with the spreaderless rig. Regards David
  14. I have an old IOM, with a B rig which seems to have no spreaders on the mast/stays. Is that unusual for IOM B rigs? Would performance be hugely affected if I sailed her just under stays? Regards David

Hi Peter Understood. That all makes very good sense and I’m very grateful for the guidance David

Not too late! The mast is unglued from the stub. I will look at what best to do with it now. I must make sure that whatever I do does not contravene class rules. I like the look of the site you directed me to and I have saved it. Many thanks David

Hi Nigel That did occur to me and have had a look at RC Yachts to see the costs of a mast plus stub. They’re not cheap! I’m relatively new to rc/model yachts, and am enjoying tinkering so, regardless, it’s a learning exercise. Thanks for your contributions David

Ok. I will be “going in” later today - once I’ve plucked up the courage….! David

Thanks. I will give it a try! David

Hi Nigel These are standard DF95 carbon? mast and stub. There was no lower protection ring fitted, so the mast itself has begun to split a little. I have no idea about what was used to bond them. David

Hi all Does anyone have any experience of trying to remove a mast stub from a mast, when they have been glued together? David
  22. Thank you Peter. It doesn’t get much clearer than that D
  23. That is interesting! David
