Struggling to access live stream of worlds
If you click on the link in the channel description you get taken to a proprietary link which requires login and needs your credit card for 'validation'. Not handing my credit card details to some random website. Not impressed. Always thought that the Gladstone Worlds coverage would take some beating and Datchet seem to have failed from the get go for me. Perhaps someone can explain?

Struggling to access live stream of worlds
Nothing 'live' yet! If you got onto Facebook and search for IOM World Championship 2026 you will get about 2 minutes of recorded 'testing' before the boats are called off the water prior to the first seeding race starting at 10am. Nothing 'live' after that so far and the YouTube channel currently shows 'No Content'. I had heard that there might be a 'highlights' show later in the day at some point rather than live video but your guess is as good as mine!

A-Rig mast prebend
Yes - I removed the sail and measured the current bend 15mm to centre line of the mast, does look to be all in the last 150mm top of the mast. Luckly I also have another A-Rig on my other boat, same sail maker and the sail maker is also from our club so will check with him. Many thanks for replying
-
A-Rig mast prebend
Surely the prebend is removed by putting tension on the back stay. If it still doesn’t match the luff curve of the sail then it’s the position of the prebend rather than the amount. The sailmaker should be able to tell you where to put it.

Has this boat finished her penalty? What constitutes a Tack?
Hi John949, Yes See R 14. Avoid Contact - and then if you think a rule has been broken, protest. John

A-Rig mast prebend
I have recently bought another IOM with 2 A rigs but the one with a new sail on does not set correctly (from the previous owner) due to too much prebend. We are going to correct this on Wednesday what amount of prebend? The mast is a normal 11mm dia black mast, Graphite sails sail on a Vision IOM.

Has this boat finished her penalty? What constitutes a Tack?
Note that the term 'full & by' was dropped from the RRS many many years ago - replaced by 'close hauled course' Oops, showing my age. Still I do know that the "overtaking boat keeps clear" rule was dropped equally long ago (unlike a lot of people it seems). It is one of the (many) difficulties of Radio Sailing that judging "proper course" when sailing perpendicular to the observer is not easy. My understanding is that if you get overlapped to leeward you are required to keep clear and protest afterwards (if you believe the leeward boat is sailing above her proper course) - not ignore the leeward boat and watch the boats raft up.

Any infomation on this RC catamaran?
I already told Norman it's a KLUG, made in Germany in the 1970's They also made a Marblehead (Gibli) and a 10r but I can't remember the name. Nice to see that you' ve got it together.

Has this boat finished her penalty? What constitutes a Tack?
Hi RoRo, I suggest you look in the WS Case Book and share with your fellow sailors. Look at cases 15 and especially Case 27 for applying R 13. Case 27 is exactly the described issue. Rule 13, While Tacking CASE 15 In tacking to round a mark, a boat clear ahead must comply with rule 13; a boat clear astern is entitled to hold her course and thereby prevent the other from tacking. CASE 27 A boat is not required to anticipate that another boat will break a rule. When a boat acquires right of way as a result of her own actions, the other boat is entitled to room to keep clear. Also for R 15 see Case 81 however that is a marks to stbd scenario. CASE 81 When a boat entitled to mark-room under rule 18.2(a)(2) passes head to wind, rule 18.2(a)(2) ceases to apply and she must comply with the applicable rule of Section A. John

Has this boat finished her penalty? What constitutes a Tack?
This happened to me at the weekend and the boat involved refused to do a turn and just said l was on starboard. At club level the argument is not worth the trouble but how do we sort this at an event especially with a he said she said?
-
Has this boat finished her penalty? What constitutes a Tack?
Hi Colin et al, I cover the subject of boats tacking at the stbd lay line on my web site - scroll to the bottom and look for my Appendix C When is 'tacking too close' too close? John
-
Has this boat finished her penalty? What constitutes a Tack?
Obligation to give time and room to keep clear does seem to get 'forgotten', esp. at windward marks. And, with the tacking aspect, can get 'subjective'. Often worthwhile, I think, even if you are going to complete your tack in adequate time, to let the other boat know. Unless in a title-deciding match race, then a collision is likely to disadvantage both (or more)....
-
Has this boat finished her penalty? What constitutes a Tack?
Hi John949 what you are describing is a clear breach of R 13. In addition, as ROW has changed, R 15 also applies briefly and the port tack boat must be given room to keep clear once STBD reaches close hauled course. Note that the term 'full & by' was dropped from the RRS many many years ago - replaced by 'close hauled course' John

Or they will generously warn you that they are "Tacking", as if that absolves them of the fact that they are tacking in your water or into you!
