6M - where are all the 6Ms?

Featured Replies

The Harwich & Dovercourt MBC would like to add a couple more 6Ms to our current fleet.

I don't know how many 6Ms are registered with the MYA - @martin dovey ? But there must be dozens and dozens (hundreds?), where are they all?

Distance might be an issue but I'm willing to travel 100+ miles for the right boat(s). WHY?*

Nice! @tiggy_cat

What are they? Rococo? Ravenna? Renaissance? Something else? Are you willing to part with one or two?

Thanks tiggy_cat, I'll suggest any H&D club members look here if they're in need of a 6M and get in contact with you.

To answer my own question 'how many 6Ms are registered with the MYA?'

This excerpt from 2022 says 1140

6M register
The Registrar has:
Class registers in both paper and electronic (Excel) formats information from numbers 850 to 1140.
The register for the 6M up to number 850 was disposed of before it could be recovered from the Registrarโ€™s widow. However the Scottish MYA Register for the class is complete.

My thanks go to the MYA Class Registrars, Nick Cowern, Roy Stevens, Richard Uttley, Bill Green and Martin Dovey, and members of the VMYG, Martin Bandey, Charles Smith, and David Mathers, in preparing this resume of the information.

These are mine. The Tern is K924, the Revival I don't think was ever finished and the Romanza is GBR1114

I have three 6M hulls that could be available, as I doubt I will get round to building them.

Romanza hull bare carbon finish, has a few bits with it, fin box deck supports etc.

Rococo bare carbon hull only.

Tern glass fibre with deck supports fitted.

Let me know if of any interest, I could possibly deliver to Dovercourt one Wednesday if I come for a sail.

@stevevw Thanks for posting Steve. I'll point any H&DMBC members here if others want a 6M.

We now have 2 'new' 6Ms added to our fleet, I'm hoping others might be interested in adding more - we'll see.

Do come for a sail one Wednesday Steve, we're usually there from around 10am until about 2, sometimes 3pm. We aim to get 16 races in (we use AFleet for scoring and at 16 your worst 3 scores get dropped - I think!). We don't rush about, even doing 16 races we take breaks for coffee and a quick lunch.

For anyone that hasn't been to the Dovercourt pond, it has to be one of the best ponds for easy access - park 40 feet from pond, rig boat on greensward between car and pond, drop boat in pond and away ๐Ÿ™‚ There are toilets about 300 yards away, a couple of cafes about 100 yards, and a small co-op less than a mile from the pond.
