August 12, 2025Aug 12 With the number of clubs now sailing a mixture of quite old and pretty new IOM’s plus everything in between, had anyone come up with anything like the Portsmouth Yardstick for working out race results taking note of how good a design might be? Is that too complicated? Maybe you just need staggered starts to try to even out performances inherent in each boat, irrespective of the standard of the skipper. If we had that then old designs would be equally as competitive as new ones?
August 12, 2025Aug 12 Using Portsmouth Yardstick involves timing everyone’s race and calculating results. Anyway PYNs are applied to whole classes not individual boats. You just gauge your personal performance by your progress up the fleet.
