Painted hull?

Featured Replies

I’m toying with buying a DF95 but I don’t want a white hull. I know I can buy a coloured hull for another £100 but can you spray a white hull with car acrylic paint??
I aught to read the class rules but I thought I’d ask!! I assume DF racing won’t sell a new boat and swap the white hull for a coloured one?

Thank you Stephen, that’s an option I wasn’t aware of - I will have to investigate but must be cheaper than a replacement hull!!

Paint is heavy.  Some colours are worse than others.  Black is good, yellow terrible.  Car paints are quite soft and will chip and mark.  2K cans are better (the ones that come with a bulb inside that you break before using).

Thanks John,

I would probably go for orange as it’s pretty visible at a distance but I take you point and know that once you key the standard hull you can’t go back and strip the paint off and have it look shiny again! I am considering the alternatives!!

Soch sails do some neat hull stickers that come in various colours and seem to be a good alternative to painting the hull.

Phone Mike Western and ask him. He is a real nice guy.

I spoke to Mike last night. As I thought, he can only sell what comes in the box so you get a white hull whether you like it or not and if you want a coloured one then thats extra! The Soch Sails vinyl trim seems to be a good idea and much cheaper than another hull so thats probably the way I'd go.

The next question is how much should you pay for an assembled  but very clean looking DF95 V1 without receiver or battery and just the A rig? As little as possible I guess but I wonder if it is just better to buy a brand new V2 and get the latest winch and whatever minor updates the V2 incorporates?
