January 12Jan 12 Hi again. You may have seen my novice postings so far regarding antenna positioning ona carbon RG 65. Thanks for all the help provided. But in my search to build an RG 65 to REPLACE my DF 65 I have found a number of suppliers who no longer make sails and/or rigs for the RG. In my opinion, ABS is not as robust as Carbon or Glass Fibre and I find my DF 65 deck warping, the sailbox cracking etc. So I see the move as more towards a preferable material than a switch of regulations. But of course ABS is now easily printed bringing down design and manufacturing costs, thus opening up the market to more radio sailors. Please tell me I've got this wrong and the RG 65 has a goiod future.Stuart
January 12Jan 12 I am just starting with RG65 as you are. I didnt have any problem finding someone to make sails. I suspect most people make their own rigs, they are pretty easy to make with DF parts being readily available, cheap and perfect for the job. So maybe its not worth suppliers making rigs - just not enough sales.

I do see fearful looks from others when someone lobs a df into the lake from a metre away, but there's the question of material suitability vs. design & build quality, etc. If an abs hull has problems then maybe its just not been designed robustly enough [to cater for the material used].And, as I alluded to on the other thread, be careful with 3d-printed - PLA+ starts to soften at around 60C (PLA at 50). Both temperatures that a car boot could reach on a summer's day!
January 13Jan 13 It's all about how you treat the boats. Treat them with respect and they will give you long & good service " I do see fearful looks from others when someone lobs a df into the lake from a metre away," if you do this or similar yes they do crack. I'm still racing the 95 i got in 2014.

Perhaps its a temporary thing and these manufacturers will start restocking but it made me think that RG might be fading in favour of the much more economic DF 65.
January 20Jan 20 Author My MX Goth appears to be lost in transit (Uk delivery companies are terrible, are they as bad elsewhere?). It may turn up but I have started searching for a UK supplier and have been told by one of the 'builders' on MYA's site that they no longer build RG65's and do not think any are now built in the UK.This is why I asked the question about the RG65 being crowded out by the DF 65.
January 21Jan 21 Items coming in from abroad can appear to get stuck. The tracking is not always kept updated - I had a package turn up at my front door while the tracking still located it at some far off airport - where I thought it had been stuck for 3 weeks! I suspect for most of that time Border Farce had been sitting on it.
January 21Jan 21 Author True, but my boat arrived in the UK alright and cleared customs, then was delivered by (unnamed} dfelivery company to the wrong address. They reclaimed it and scheduled a delivery for another day, when I stayed in and tracked it almost real time. Suddenly they claimed a 'delivery exception, customer not available' but I was able to prove by cameras no body tried.Third day a grumpy delivery man turned up, suspect he got into trouble! The courier told be it had been delivered but it had not and I had started conversing with the supplyer to get an insurance payout. But I still see a reduction in UK manufacturing as a worrying trend. Nevertheless I have my new toy and await the sails and rigs.......more when I get it into the water.
January 22Jan 22 The RG class definitely has fewer people than say IOM or DF but having said that the RG TT events usually get a good number of boats and the Nationals have a nice line up too. We are not talking multi fleet but the advantage is you get to race many races the whole day/weekend and the RG itself considering its size is a fast exciting boat to sail.
