Best source of multistrand rigging wire?

Featured Replies

I am told that I need some multistrand 40lb rigging wire for the shrouds and stays of an old Marblehead with conventional rigging (none-swing).

I’ve just been to a big angling store and asked and the stuff they sell, whilst being 40lb, is much finer than I would expect based upon wire I’ve got and it’s brown!

Where is the best place for what I want??

Thank you.

Might be worth checking the Sailsetc site for suggested line type/size etc.

see ;- https://www.sailsetc2.com/downloads/rigging guide only.pdf

I think 40lb multi strand is a little on the light size for Marblehead Shrouds. (I will need to check but think I have been using 100lb for shrouds on an IOM}

Thanks Eric, that is very interesting and may well have helped me to avoid making a mistake!!

Instead of just firing off a email, our suppliers are great at giving advise from their many years of sailing. Give PJ a ring, explain what you are doing and they’ll advise appropriately.

Shroud wire ordered - and received - from PJ along with some white self adhesive sail cloth! Thank you.
