  2. Obligation to give time and room to keep clear does seem to get 'forgotten', esp. at windward marks. And, with the tacking aspect, can get 'subjective'. Often worthwhile, I think, even if you are going to complete your tack in adequate time, to let the other boat know. Unless in a title-deciding match race, then a collision is likely to disadvantage both (or more)....
  3. Hi John949 what you are describing is a clear breach of R 13. In addition, as ROW has changed, R 15 also applies briefly and the port tack boat must be given room to keep clear once STBD reaches close hauled course. Note that the term 'full & by' was dropped from the RRS many many years ago - replaced by 'close hauled course' John

  8. Or they will generously warn you that they are "Tacking", as if that absolves them of the fact that they are tacking in your water or into you!
  9. It has Robbe parts in it, but it isn't a TopCat. It could be a Cat 460, but I rather doubt it. The mast adds about 2m of height. If anyone does know what it is, I know we have mixed up the port and starboard hulls. Picture was taken during very first test assembly while we tried to work out what we've got. Any information gratefully received. Thanks Mark

  11. In a similar vein, a yacht tacking from port to starboard does not gain starboard tack rights until her sails are full on the new tack. In my opinion, if the port tack vessel has to start an evasive manoeuvre before the starboard tack yacht's sails are full, then the tacking yacht has broken Ruel 13. Unfortunately I seem to be in a minority on this point as yachts to leeward and slightly ahead on port think they can tack with impunity and yell starboard as they come head to wind,

  13. Has Yellow finished correctly? She hits the finish mark as she finishes, so she needs to take a penalty turn and cross from the course side. She gybes to port and rounds up, passes HTW and then crosses the line before reaching a close hauled course. So has Yellow completed her penalty turn? I have written a new short article on what constitutes a tack. It is on my web site near the bottom of the home page - see Appendix D What constitutes a Tack https://sites.google.com/site/johnsrcsailingrulesandtactics/ John

  15. Thank you Gordon, I’ve had a bit of input from Craig so now I have a much better idea now of what he was doing. Is your hull rubbed down then polished or painted?
  16. I'm not going to the worlds but my daughter and family live in St Albans. So, either I could meet you there at a date to suit, or at a pinch I could bring her to Datchet and then spend the night at St Albans.. Would this help? Gordon
  17. Don’t suppose you know anyone coming south for the Worlds that could transport to Datchet?
  18. Hi Simon Sorry about the.delay in responding. To explain Craig is making minor changes which are based on very minor detail to suit him in his search for the perfect boat for him to take to the Worids As I understand it the current kit you can buy is version 3 which effectively the same as my V1. If you wish to follow this further you can contact Craig’s agent for the project, John Arundell who can explain all Yes the stand and semi rigid rig back will be included subject to agreement. I’ve included a photo I hope this covers your queries Gordon
  19. How does the Evo fit into the Proteus development series? I have an idea Craig Richards is testing the V5 at the moment. In addition, does your sale include the stand and a rig box? Thank you Simon

  26. This hull was built from the 3D printed kit of parts supplied by John Arundel and completed by myself to the highest standard last September. She has a measurement certificate and is at minimum. My intention at the time was that she would be my last of a long line of IOM's. Sadly since then my fitness has rapidly declined to the point where I can no longer sail competitively, so reluctantly she must go. The boat is completely fitted out with fittings from Sails etc , an S100 Mk 2 sail winch connected to a waterproof RMG deck switch, and has a Hitec waterproof rudder servo. The top suit is a little used moulded set to Crag Richards specification from Sailboats, while 2nd and 3rd are unused and from Pierre Gonnet. Price is negotiable around £800. For further information please phone me at 07772795657
  27. Hi Ian Glad to hear you got it sorted. As I stated in the originl post the Futaba T6J is not very intuative to use! It is however fairly robust and reliable to use. Just keep it dry and be careful where you position the aerial on rx if your Marblehead hull is carbon. Happy sailing with your controller. Eric
  28. Thank you to all the adjustment advice. I have tried them all and they worked, but a rather confusing piece of kit. Thank you all

Ian Vickers has passed away, a true gentleman and expert sailor and builder of IOM’s. As a customer of Ian I have nothing but praise and respect for his boats and his brilliance and his dedication. He will be very much missed

Very lightly used df95 Apologies I am selling for a late friend and I don't really know much about these. I don't think it has been sailed more than a few times. the boat looks complete but i don't have a controller or any batteries. There are 3 complete rigs in a box with very nice looking sails, there is some corrosion on some of the kicker fixings but I suggest this is only minor. I will try and get the boat powered up if you want to see it working. The boat is in Essex CO2 My number is 07880191762 £275
