July 12Jul 12 This happened just after the start at the left hand pin 6 boats crossed the line on starboard on each others hip when the second from leeward boat just tacked on to port and caused a pile up of several boats, this boat did it on several starts, should it be given DNE on the result sheet? I beleive it broke Rule 10, 13 and 14?
July 12Jul 12 I think that it would take a protest committee to upgrade the offense to breaking R 2 Fair Sailing to be able to upgrade from DSQ to DNE.The PC would need to find that repeated breaking of the (same) rules met the standard of R2.John
July 12Jul 12 Second thoughts - my answer above covers the mechanics of the incident - how to get there and how to score it, but what is the cause? what is the real issue?Does this skipper not understand the rules? Does he need some help and coaching? Or is this a recurring and complete disregard for the Corinthian spirit of racing and a willingness to respect the rules and the rights of other competitors? If yes, then a last resort - a PC may want to consider an R 69 hearing.John

Someone inexperienced thinking they can tack onto starboard at inches' notice would be one thing, but onto port?
