July 8, 20241 yr As someone who had not built a new One Metre boat this century I’d be very to have an idea of overall cost. Let’s say I’m using 3 rigs from Housemartin or Sails etc and then an Alioth hull - how much does one of those usually cost? - and then fold and ballast (Dave Creed or is there an ‘official’ supplier?) and a suitable winch (I’m a Whirlwind man so I don’t know what the best winch for an Alioth is). A rough idea of overall cost would be interesting! At the end of the day I’m not sure if I want to hit the racing circuit but I’ve always believed that you should sail the best boat you can afford then you can never blame the boat!! Any thoughts and opinions very much appreciated! Thanks Simon
July 13, 20241 yr Hi Simon, take a look under the suppliers section of the forum / 3D Printed RC Yachts. There is a break down of costs for an Alioth if hull supplied by 3D Printed RC Yachts.

July 14, 20241 yr Simon, keep an eye on Nigel Barrow's Web site if you don't already do so as he has changed elegance from sailing a Britpop to an Alioth. He has provided on his site a large amount of information on his changes in build and setup of the design. He is listed as taking this boat to the World's in Australia later this year.
July 14, 20241 yr Author Very interesting. Given that the Britpop has been 'the' boat to have if you want to win and it comes at such a premium price then its very good that the Alioth is significantly more affordable, although still not cheap. Now added Nigel's website to my desktop! Edited July 14, 20241 yr by SimonCornes
July 14, 20241 yr Hi I've built two alioths one with a RMG, and one with a cheap kingmax winch, there's hardly any difference.
July 14, 20241 yr Author How robust is the Kingmax? I know RMG are good but I’m used to Whirlwind winches which are actually waterproof and have built in BECs !
